A vehicular transmission system is disclosed that includes an engine, a transmission having an input shaft, a master friction clutch for drivingly connecting the engine to the transmission, an inertia brake for selectively controlling rotation of the input shaft, and at least one control unit. The control unit includes logic rules that selectively disable operation of the inertia brake in response to a system operating condition during at least one mode of operation of the vehicular transmission system. The system also includes at least one input corresponding to a system operating condition and at least one output corresponding to a command to log a fault or disable operation of the inertia brake in response to the system operating condition during the at least one mode of operation. A control system and method for operating the vehicular transmission system are also disclosed.

The present invention provides a driving force distributing apparatus which can instantaneously reduce clutch pressure to thereby carry out proper operation of an ABS even if the ABS is actuated in traveling in a 4WD mode. In order to reduce pressure in a piston chamber, a control circuit drives a motor for reverse rotation. As a result, a pressure difference between a piston chamber side pressure and a pump side pressure in a supply path becomes large, pressure oil on a piston chamber side in the supply path is instantaneously discharged to an outside from a releasing hole of a quick open valve, and the pressure in the piston chamber reduces instantaneously.

A method of operating a motor vehicle that is equipped with sensors to detect the rpm-rates of the driven wheels includes the steps of: a) determining current rpm-rates of one or more driven wheels; b) examining the current rpm-rates for potential errors; c) detecting whether a command for a gear shift has been initiated; and d) in case an error was found in step b), taking protective measures so that the engine cannot be forced to run at rpm-rates detrimental to the safe operation of the vehicle as a consequence of executing and completing the gear shift.

There is provided an apparatus for determining a failure of an electromagnetic clutch, which is capable of properly determining whether or not a failure, a typically a layer short-circuit, has occurred due to a change in a resistance value of a solenoid coil of the electromagnetic clutch. The electromagnetic clutch is configured such that the engagement force thereof is varied according to an amount of current flowing through the coil. An output control value for control of the amount of current is calculated by feedback control such that an actual amount of current actually flowing through the coil becomes equal to a desired amount of current. A predetermined reference control value is stored which defines a standard for the output control value and has a standard relationship with respect to the amount of current. The actual amount of current is detected. The calculated output control value is compared with the predetermined reference control value corresponding to the detected actual amount of current. It is determined based on a result of the comparison by the comparison means whether or not the electromagnetic clutch has failed due to a change in a resistance value of the coil of the solenoid thereof.

An automated clutch between the engine and the variable-speed transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle is operated by a control unit which receives signals from several circuits and/or sensors via one or more conductors. The control unit shifts from a normal operating mode to an emergency mode when one or more sensors and/or circuits and/or conductors are defective. When in emergency mode, the control unit disengages the clutch when the driver starts the engine while the vehicle brake or the parking brake is applied. This ensures that the engine can drive the vehicle as soon as the transmission is shifted into a forward gear or into reverse gear and the application of the brake or brakes is terminated because the control unit is then again free to engage the clutch. Furthermore, such mode of operation enables the driver to shift the transmission into or from a selected gear in response to the application of a relatively small force to the gear shifting lever.
