Abstract:
A method of fabricating nanostructures containing isotropically distributed, interconnected pores having cross-sectional diameters in the nanometer and Angstrom range by integrating the steps of attriting precursor nanometer-sized particulate materials, desorbing the exposed surfaces of the attrited nanoparticulates, adsorbing a surfactant on 25-50% of the desorbed surfaces and dispersing the surfactant-coated nanoparticulates in an organic matrix to form a homogeneous thermoplastic compound from which green nanostructures are formed, dewaxed and sintered to the desired degree of microporosity.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the discovery of an HEV strain from a chronically infected patient. The virus grow unusually well in numerous cell cultures. Thus, the invention provides cell cultures, vectors, and vaccine compositions based on the virus. The invention relates, in part, on the identification of a new strain of HEV genotype 3 virus. Strain Kernow-C1 (genotype 3) of HEV, which was isolated from a chronically infected patient, was used to identify human, pig and deer cell lines permissive for infection. Adaptation of the Kernow-C 1 strain to growth in human hepatoma cells selected for a rare virus recombinant that contained an insertion of 174 ribonucleotides (58 amino acids) of a human ribosomal protein gene and additional mutations.
Abstract:
Pressureless sintered high density materials containing hexagonal boron nitride have low coefficients of friction and high wear resistance and are useful for bearings, bushings and other articles subjected to bearing loads.
Abstract:
Semiconductor wire bonding tools used in the assembly and interconnection of integrated circuits (ICs) are micromolded from a mixture of ultrafine particulate materials mixed with an organic binder. Following extraction of the binder the green bonding tools are sintered during which they undergo isotropic, constant and accurately predetermined shrinkage. Hence semiconductor wire bonding tools can be produced with virtually no limit to miniaturization, thus allowing the fabrication of higher integrated semiconductor products.
Abstract:
Permanent magnet for voice coil actuator motors used to actuate head-arm assemblies in small form disk drives are produced from a dispersion of prealloyed rare earth magnetic particles in a thermoplastic binder. Upon shaping of green parts the magnetic axis of the particles is aligned with the field lines of a magnetic field. Following extraction of the binder the green parts are sintered to net shape. Improved magnetic properties, smaller dimensions, better than tolerances and 100% material utilization are claimed.
Abstract:
Ultrasmall, complex-shaped high-precision micromolds are produced by controlled shrinkage upon sintering of green parts molded from mixtures of micrometer- or nanometer-sized particulates dispersed in an organic binder.

A method of fabricating nanostructure bodies by integrating the steps of attriting precursor nanometer-sized particulate materials, desorbing the exposed surfaces of the attrited nanoparticulates, adsorbing a surfactant on at most 50% of the desorbed surfaces and dispersing the surfactant-coated nanoparticulates in an organic matrix to form a homogeneous thermoplastic compound from which green bodies are shaped, dewaxed and sintered.
