Abstract:
An ion-exchange membrane is disclosed here including ion-permeable layers impregnated with an ion-exchange material and arranged in an order from one face of the membrane to the opposite face of the membrane such that opposing layers in the supporting membrane substrate provide sufficiently identical physical properties to substantially avoid irregular expansion when in a salt solution. The ion-permeable layers including at least one non-woven layer and at least one reinforcing layer.
Abstract:
A wave power converter is presented comprising an airtight compressible bag supporting a ballast and configured to be inflated with gas. The airtight compressible bag comprises flexible walls, wherein the shape and length of the bag is determined by the equilibrium between the weight of the ballast and the pressure inside the bag. A floating body is connected to the airtight compressible bag by a tube. The converter comprises one or more airtight vessels and a power conversion means for generating power from the reciprocating flow of gas between the bag and airtight vessel. The airtight compressible bag is submerged and surrounded by water on all sides wherein the heaving and/or pitching of said floating body excites the oscillation of said ballast which squeezes and expands said airtight compressible bag driving the contained gas via the tube and power conversion means into and out of the airtight vessel.
Abstract:
A ventilating sill for elevating a wall partition from a floor surface in order to isolate the wall partition from moisture and humidity that can emanate from the floor surface or be present thereon. The ventilating sill includes a block having a support surface, a base surface, two opposed side surfaces and a plurality of spaced channels extending between the side surfaces forming channeled surfaces. The ventilating sill further includes a pair of slats, each slat extending from each side surface upwardly towards the wall partition at a right angle to the support surface, the slats defining a support area, and being adapted to guide the wall partition onto the support surface and at least one aperture communicating between the support area and an ambient environment for ventilating the support area and draining moisture and humidity therefrom.
Abstract:
An integrated and reactive music control system designed for silencing music in an operating room during critical events. The preferred system contains a music input, a hardware interface to integrate real-time patient physiologic data, a software application to process the data, a user interface, and a music output, any portion or all of which may be hardwired or wireless. Through the user interface, medical personnel may adjust pre-set limits on physiologic parameters that indicate abnormality or risk to a particular patient. To reduce ambient noise pollution and permit communication and concentration of the surgical team, volume is reduced as a patient's condition deteriorates. Resulting in additional safety to patients in the operating room, the cessation of music may capture the attention of health care professionals who suffer from alarm desensitization. The system's integration includes an anesthesia monitor, but may extend to include a hospital data server and EMR systems.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel compounds, in particular novel pyridinone derivatives according to Formula (I) including any stereochemically isomeric form thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a solvate thereof, wherein all radicals are defined in the application and claims. The compounds according to the invention are positive allosteric modulators of metabotropic glutamate receptors subtype 2 (“mGluR2”) which are useful for the treatment or prevention of neurological and psychiatric disorders associated with glutamate dysfunction and diseases in which the mGluR2 subtype of metabotropic receptors is involved. In particular, such diseases are central nervous system disorders selected from the group of anxiety, schizophrenia, migraine, depression, and epilepsy. The invention is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions and processes to prepare such compounds and such compositions, as well as to the use of such compounds for the prevention and treatment of such diseases in which mGluR2 is involved.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compounds that are fast dissociating dopamine 2 receptor antagonists, processes for preparing these compounds, pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds as an active ingredient. The compounds find utility as medicines for treating or preventing central nervous system disorders, for example schizophrenia, by exerting an antipsychotic effect without motor side effects.
Abstract:
