    摘要: A bone fastener assembly and a method of stabilizing a bone using such an assembly are presented. The bone assembly includes a bone fastener and a connecting member for holding a stabilizing member, such as a rod or plate, wherein the connecting member has a side-opening for accepting the rod therein. Optionally the bone fastener system also permits the bone fastener to pivot relative to a longitudinal axis of the assembly, and is provided with an armature that allows the connecting member to be offset from the longitudinal axis of the bone fastener and for the connecting member to swivel about the longitudinal axis of the assembly. By allowing the rod to be inserted into the connecting member via this side-opening the bone fastener provides a system that is particularly useful for minimally invasive surgeries.

    摘要: A bone fastener assembly and a method of stabilizing a bone using such an assembly are presented. The bone assembly includes a bone fastener and a connecting member for holding a stabilizing member, such as a rod or plate, mounted together via an armature that allows the connecting member to be offset from the longitudinal axis of the bone fastener and optionally also permits the bone fastener to pivot relative to a longitudinal axis of the assembly and the connecting member swivel about the longitudinal axis of the assembly. By allowing the connecting member to be offset and independently swivel about the longitudinal axis of the fastener, the bone assembly of the current invention allows for an unprecedented degree of freedom in positioning an interconnecting rod to that assembly.

    摘要: A system, apparatus, and method for locating, measuring and evaluating the enlargement of a foramen are provided. An instrument has a handle, an angled region, and a tip to be inserted into the foramen. An instrument can be pressed onto the foramen to determine its location and whether the empty space within the foramen is large enough for the maximum width of the tip to be inserted. If the tip cannot insert, the foramen can be cut to enlarge it enough for the tip to insert. A kit of several instruments or a single instrument with tips of different maximum widths are provided for determining the amount of empty space within the foramen through the course of the enlargement.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for aligning and fixing vertebral bodies is provided. The low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly of the current invention comprises a hemispherical headed pedicle screw disposed within a slotted coupling unit designed to allow angular adjustment of the pedicle screw up to 90° and which may be securely locked into position via a single internal locking nut once a standard alignment rod has been inserted into the slotted coupling unit. The low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly enabling the angular adjustment of the fixation system hardware after final placement and insertion of the pedicle screw into the vertebral body. A system and method for aligning and fixing vertebral bodies using the low profile vertebral alignment/fixation assembly of the invention is also provided.
