A molded oxide product of the present invention contains an oxide region and an organic cross-linked region and has at least a surface layer formed of an inorganic glassy material. The molded oxide product can combine both organic and inorganic advantages such as good workability of organic materials and high weather resistance, heat resistance and hardness of inorganic materials. The molded oxide product can be produced through the following steps: step A for preparing a precursor R2-M-O-M′ having a polymerizable functional group-containing organic group R2 and a M-O-M′ bond; step B for applying an application liquid containing the precursor; step C for hardening the application liquid by photocuring and/or thermosetting; and step D for performing oxidation treatment on at least a surface layer of the hardened product in such a manner as to convert at least the surface layer of the hardened product to be of inorganic glassy material.

Novel compounds, 4-tert.-butyl-1,2-benzenedithiol and bis(4-tert.-butyl-1,2-dithiophenolate) metal complexes having the general formula of ##STR1## wherein M represents a trivalent transition metal, and A represents a quarternary ammonium are provided.The novel benzenedithiol is produced by reacting 4-tert.-butylbenzenethiol or di(4-tert.-butylphenyl)disulfide with sulfur monochloride in the presence of iodine or a Lewis acid in a solvent, and then reducing the resultant product with a metal selected from the group consisting of zinc, tin, iron and aluminum in the presence of an acid.The novel Cu, Co and Ni complexes are produced by reacting the benzenedithiol with a salt of the corresponding divalent transition metal in the presence of an alkoxide metal or a hydride metal and a quarternary ammonium salt in a solvent under an oxidative atmosphere.The complexes strongly absorb rays in the region of ultraviolet, visible or near infrared, and are useful intermediates for the production of optical information recording media.

The present invention provides a raw material composition for preparing a sintered body of aluminum titanate, the composition comprising (i) 100 parts by weight of a mixture comprising 40 to 50 mol % of TiO2 and 60 to 50 mol % of Al2O3, (ii) 1 to 10 parts by weight of an alkali feldspar represented by the formula: (NxK1-x)AlSi3O8 (0≦x≦1), and (iii) 1 to 10 parts by weight of at least one Mg-containing component selected from the group consisting of a Mg-containing oxide with spinel structure, MgCO3 and MgO, and a process for preparing a sintered body of aluminum titanate comprising sintering a formed product prepared from the raw material composition at 1300 to 1700° C. According to the present invention, a sintered body of aluminum titanate having high mechanical strength and ability to be stably used at high temperatures, as well as its inherent properties of low coefficient of thermal expansion and high corrosion resistance, can be obtained.
