A liquid crystal display including a backlight and a filter, the backlight including a light-emitting device having a light-emitting element emitting blue light, and a green phosphor and a red phosphor absorbing a part of primary light emitted from the light-emitting element and emitting first secondary light and second secondary light, respectively, the green phosphor being a β-type SiAlON phosphor containing Eu and Al dissolved in a crystal of a nitride or an oxynitride having a β-type Si3N4 crystal structure, and the filter including filters for colors of red (R), green (G), blue (B) and yellow (Y), respectively, arranged in a plane for subpixels provided in each pixel of the liquid crystal display, which attains excellent color reproducibility (NTSC ratio) and high luminance, can be provided.

A semiconductor light-emitting device has a semiconductor light-emitting element for emitting light with emission wavelengths of 390 to 420 nm, wherein the wavelengths of light from the semiconductor light-emitting element are converted by a fluorescent substance having a monochromatic emission peak. The emission wavelengths of 390 to 420 nm, which have almost no adverse effect on human bodies and components of the semiconductor light-emitting device, are in a low human visibility range. Since light whose wavelengths are converted by the fluorescent substance are hardly affected by direct light from the semiconductor light-emitting element, light from the fluorescent substance has a favorable color tone. Also, the semiconductor light-emitting device allows desired luminous colors to be obtained only by changing fluorescent substance materials without changing the structure of the semiconductor light-emitting device or the semiconductor light-emitting element.

The present invention provides an evaporated fuel gas adsorbent, an evaporated fuel gas trapping apparatus that uses the adsorbent, an activated carbon, and a process for producing the activated carbon. The evaporated fuel gas adsorbent is capable of improving adsorptivity and desorptivity by reliably preventing a temperature rise and a temperature fall caused by heat generated in response to the adsorption and desorption of evaporated fuel gas, is capable of achieving a size reduction of the device, and is capable of being easily produced. The activated carbon has high mechanical strength and high abrasive resistance, has many pores suitable to adsorb an organic solvent, especially, evaporated fuel gas, and has a high packing density. The activated-carbon producing process is industrially advantageous.
