摘要： The polysaccharide araban is extracted from sugar beet by a novel modification of the known alkaline extraction process in which, after neutralization of the alkaline liquor, the liquor is ultrafiltered and the retentate is dried to obtain dry araban. Araban, obtained by the above process or otherwise, is incubated with .alpha.-L-arabinofuranosidase to cleave most or all of the branches from the araban. The debranched araban forms an aqueous gel which has the properties of a fat mimetic and may be used as a fat substitute in foods. Isolated debranched araban derived from crude sugar beet araban is a novel substance. Araban itself may be used in the novel applications of emulsification and encapsulation of oils, for example flavor oils.

摘要： A multi-function turn signal switch comprises a cylindrical switch body on which an operating lever is mounted for pivotal motion about a pivot located on the longitudinal axis of the body. Located internally of the body on a transverse end wall through which the lever passes, is a circular array of four sealed membrane switches, arranged at 90 degree intervals about the longitudinal axis. The lever is mounted in ball and socket type joint enabling the interior end of the lever to describe a frustoconical zone of swivelling. Internal mechanism, including an electromagnetic cancellation mechanism, within the body bears against the interior end of the lever to define various operating positions for the lever around the zone of swivelling, each correlated with actuation of a particular one of the membrane switches by means of a transverse circular disc that is on the lever between the lever mounting and the interior end of the lever. The lever is also displaceable longitudinally for simultaneous actuation of all the array's switches. Circumferential arrays of membrane switches are disposed on the outside of the switch body for selective actuation by rotary actuators. Compressible, resilient pads overlie all arrays to permit membrane switch actuation by the corresponding actuating device while absorbing a certain amount of the actuating device's travel.

摘要： An automotive vehicle that is powered by an electronically-controlled engine, such as a truck that is powered by an electronically-controlled diesel engine, is equipped with dual sets of controls, one set on each side of the vehicle. The accelerator pedal of each set operates a corresponding accelerator pedal sensor, and the two accelerator pedal sensors are coupled with an electronic controller of the engine by a coupling circuit that includes diodes for blocking current flow from each sensor to the other so that neither sensor can impose a load on the other that would impair the accuracy of the pedal position signal from the one sensor that is actively connected to the controller to the exclusion of the other because that one sensor's pedal is more distant from idle that the other pedal.

摘要： A biological specimen collection device comprises a specimen receptacle having a closed first end and an open second end. A removable conduit is provided for introducing a biological specimen into the receptacle and is connected to the second end of the receptacle. A base removably receives the first end of the receptacle and supports the receptacle in a substantially vertical position. A cap is removably connected to the base, this cap adapted to provide a liquid seal between the cap and the open second end of the receptacle. The cap is maintained in a protective environment during introduction of the biological specimen into the receptacle. Access is permitted to the cap after the specimen has been collected for subsequently capping the open end of the receptacle with its contents.

摘要： A waste liquid collection system for use in continuous arteriovenous or venovenous hemodialysis (CAVH or CVVH) is disclosed. The system comprises a collection vessel and associated interconnection lines which can be preset to given volume of waste liquid to be removed from the dialysis machine in a given period of time. Once the volume is reached, the collection vessel stops waste liquid flow until the vessel is emptied and reset. The system guaranties that excess liquid will not be removed from a patient.

摘要： A sugar composition consisting of from 90 to 99% by weight sugar and from 10 to 1% by weight of a non-gelling water-soluble dietary fibre. The sugar composition has substantially the properties of normal sugar, but contains a significant amount of dietary fibre, with consequent health benefits. A novel type of soluble fibre derived from sugar beet and a method for preparing it are disclosed. The composition may take the form of a concentrate or syrup, or may be in particulate form. The particulate form may be used as a direct sugar substitute. The fibre used may be a novel fibre obtainable by treating sugar beet with water free from chemical reagents at ambient pressure and at an elevated temperature, for example from 95.degree.-98.degree. C.
