摘要: A liquid crystal composition is realized, which composition simultaneously exhibits a negatively large .DELTA..di-elect cons. value suitable to .tau.-Vmin, and SA phase within a sufficient temperature range for realizing a good alignment. A smectic liquid crystal composition containing component (AI), component (B) and/or component (C), expressed by the following formulas: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 9 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 9 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, R.sup.4 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, X represents H or F, R.sup.5 represents an alkyl group of 6 to 15 carbon atoms and R.sup.6 represents an alkyl group of 6 to 15 carbon atoms. Ferroelectric liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric anisotropy is applicable to display element utilizing AC-stabilizing effect and .tau.-Vmin. Further, as to the composition containing ##STR2## as an additional component, SA phase appears within a broad range; hence the composition can be made up into a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition having a good alignment.

摘要: A composition containing a smectic C compound, having a .DELTA..epsilon. of negative value and enabling to effect a high speed response; a ferroelectric chiral smectic C liquid crystal composition using the same; and a ferroelectric liquid crystal display device using the ferroelectric chiral smectic C liquid crystal composition are provided,which composition containing a smectic C compound comprises at least one compound expressed by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent different linear alkyl groups of 1 to 9 C, andat least one compound-expressed by the formula (II) ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 each represent the same or different linear alkyl groups of 1 to 18 C and X is H or F.

摘要: Ferroelectric liquid crystal compositions having a large dependency of spontaneous polarization on temperature; liquid crystal display devices exhibiting a small dependency of response speed on temperature and making it possible to obtain a wide temperature margin in practical use, and fabricated by using the ferroelectric liquid crystal composition; and methods for driving the devices are provided;the compositions comprising at least one compound expressed by the following general formula (1) ##STR1## at least one compound expressed by the following general formula (2), and ##STR2## at least one compound expressed by the following general formula (3) ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.6, ring A-B, A, X.sub.1, and X.sub.2 are herein defined.

摘要: An exhaust purification device for an engine comprises a catalyst device that purifies the exhaust gas of the engine by using an additive; a venturi-shaped mixing chamber that is disposed upstream from the catalyst device and extends from a taper portion with a diameter tapering downstream to continue to a constricted portion with a minimum diameter and then to a flared portion with a diameter that is increased in the downstream direction; a swirl-generating device that is disposed in vicinity of a most upstream section of the taper portion of the mixing chamber and generates a swirling flow in the exhaust gas; and an additive-injection device that is disposed upstream from the constricted portion of the mixing chamber and downstream from the swirl-generating device, and injects the additive into the mixing chamber.

The germanium protective layer 11 has the electrical conductivity different from electrical conductivity of the germanium light emitting layer or the light absorption layer 10.
