    摘要: Analog signals representing individual digital values (.+-.1, .+-.3) pass through a telephone line to a receiver. These signals may be first provided in a pseudo random sequence. A linear echo canceller and a first adder eliminate, to an extent, echo signals resulting from second analog signals transmitted on the same telephone line by the receiver. A non-linear echo canceller and a second adder further reduce the echo signals and specifically reduce non-linear components in the echo signals. Adjustable signal delays achieve optimal performance of the linear and non-linear echo cancellers. An equalizer containing four (4) different modules then compensates for signal distortions introduced by the telephone line and minimizes the effect of noise in the telephone line. The equalizer modules are a digital gain control element, a feed forward digital filter and two (2) feedback digital filters. A detector module produces in one of several different ways at the receiver an estimate of the digital data (.+-.1, .+-.3) transmitted at the other end of the telephone line. The detector either extracts the digital information based on peaks in the received (non-equalized) signal or by adding the equalized signals with preset threshold values. A scrambler-descrambler module locally generates a replica of the digital symbols transmitted in analog form at the other end of the telephone line, based on a limited number (e.g. 23) of correctly detected digital values. The scrambler-descrambler module may also operate as a descrambler to recover data scrambled by the transmitter at the other end.

    摘要: A digital wireless subscriber telephone unit for wireless connection with a base station. The subscriber unit has a baseband processor which is coupled to storage device for the baseband functions. The baseband processor is direct access coupled to a modem processor whereby the two processors may communicate with each other. The modem processor generally acts as the master in the system, although lock-out circuit may be used in certain circumstances. The signal from the modem processor is converted to an analog signal, which is subjected to deglitching, and the deglitched signal is then upconverted and filtered to form an IF signal which is thereafter amplified. The amplified IF signal is combined with a signal generated by a synthesizer to provide an RF signal. On the basis of certain signals received from the base station, the baseband processor produces initiating signals which determine whether the subscriber unit will be in the transmit mode or the receive mode. In intervals between actuation of the system, a training mode is used wherein a known signal from the modem processor is compared with a looped-back signal to produce correction constants to compensate for undesirable variations in the IF, these constants being stored for use in correcting actual received signals. During demodulation, the modulated digital signals are fed to the modem processor in the form of time multiplexed I and Q samples and are demultiplexed. The demultiplexed I and Q samples are fed to an equalizer and frequency correction circuit for minimization of errors and for production of a frequency correction signal which is used to correct any errors in the timing of the system and in the output of the synthesizer. 2

    摘要: A modem including a modulator section for converting a bit stream, wherein each given number of successive bits defines a symbol, into a phase modulated intermediate frequency (IF) signal, the symbols in the modulator section being phase modulated and then digitally filtered to provide a filtered signal that, when converted into an analog signal, provides a modulation signal of a frequency that is centered about a predetermined frequency and deviates therefrom in accordance with the value of the phase modulated symbol, the analog signal then being filtered and passed to a mixer for up conversion to an IF signal; and a demodulator section for converting the IF signal into a bit stream, the demodulator section including a microprocessor which not only filters received digital signals but contains a memory for storing filter coefficients for use in the filtering of received digital signals; the modem being also operable in a training mode wherein a sequence of predetermined symbols is provided to the filter in the modulator section and the resultant phase modulated IF signal is receivable in the demodulator section, the microprocessor acting to adjust the filter coefficients stored in its memory until the reconstructed phase modulated symbols correspond to the sequence of predetermined symbols provided to the filter in the modulator section.
