Abstract:
A hinge pillar assembly includes a hinge pillar including a panel. The panel including a body side outer door shut face and a defining an inner cavity and an access opening in communication with the inner cavity. The access opening is positioned in the body side outer door shut face and provides access to the manual park release actuator at least partially disposed in the inner cavity. The hinge pillar assembly further includes a cover removably coupled to the hinge pillar. The cover closes the access opening when coupled to the hinge pillar. The hinge pillar assembly further includes a manual park release actuator at least partially disposed in the inner cavity. The manual park release actuator is operatively coupled to a transmission and is configured to move relative to the hinge pillar to shift the transmission from a Park mode to an Out-of-Park mode.
Abstract:
A method for reporting vehicle operator impairment criteria is provided. The method determines, using a substance detection device installed inside a vehicle, a level of a substance or combination of substances associated with vehicle operator impairment; obtains vehicle status data from a plurality of sensors onboard the vehicle; determines a level of risk associated with vehicle operator behavior, using the obtained vehicle status data; and generates a report, comprising the determined level of the substance or the combination of substances and the determined level of risk.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for an extended secure idle (SI) for a mobile platform. The SI may be entered and exited responsive to a variety of SI entry and SI exit conditions. SI entry and exit conditions include receiving key fob data from a key fob authenticated with the mobile platform. In addition, various predetermined safeguard conditions for scenarios to monitor may be designated a priori. The described system and method will continually check that the predetermined safeguard conditions are not violated during an extended SI.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting impairment of a vehicle operator are provided. The method includes detecting a first impairment level at a first time; detecting a second impairment level at a second time after the first time; based on the detected first impairment level and the detected second impairment level, determining a third impairment level at a third time after the second time; and inhibiting vehicle operation in response to determining that the third impairment level is greater than an impairment threshold. The apparatus and method may be used in a vehicle or other apparatus to prevent vehicle operator from operating the vehicle while impaired or prior to becoming impaired.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for controlling a passive driver impairment detection system in a vehicle are provided. The method and system detect states of vehicle component operating systems and/or vehicle occupant monitoring systems and control activation and deactivation of the impairment detection system in response. The methods and systems enable a proactive transition from an inactive state to an active state by detecting the presence of an individual within or approaching the vehicle or an intent of the individual to approach the vehicle in order to overcome a significant functional latency in the impairment detection system. The methods and system further enable a transition from the active state to the inactive state by using multiple systems to corroborate the absence of the individual within or approaching the vehicle and the lack of intent of the individual to approach the vehicle.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing reminder of occupant status are provided. The method includes in response to detecting rear passenger door of vehicle has been opened, determining whether vehicle is in first power mode or second power mode; in response to determining that vehicle is in first power mode, setting timer corresponding to time limit for detecting transition from first power mode to second power mode; in response to detecting transition from first power mode to second power mode and timer being unexpired, turning on setting to output reminder of an occupant; in response to determining that vehicle is in second power mode, turning on setting to output reminder of occupant; and in response to detecting transition from second power mode to first power mode, outputting reminder of occupant if setting to output reminder of occupant is turned on. The method may provide reminders of rear seat occupants.

Abstract:
A method of controlling a vehicle includes sensing movement of an interior door handle of the vehicle with a sensing device, such as a door lock switch. A position of a door of the vehicle is sensed with a door position sensor, after movement of the interior door handle is sensed, to determine if the door remains in an unopened position after movement of the interior door handle is sensed, or if the door moves into an opened position after movement of the interior door handle is sensed. When movement of the interior door handle is sensed and the door remains in the unopened position after movement of the interior door handle, instructions are provided with an audio or video device related to the proper procedure for unlocking and opening the door.
