Abstract: A method for controlling intake and exhaust valves of an engine includes: Controlling opening and closing timings of the intake and exhaust valves by an intake continuous variable valve timing (CVVT) device and an exhaust CVVT devices; determining, by a controller, target intake and exhaust opening durations of the intake and exhaust valves, and target opening and closing timings of the valves based on an engine load and an engine speed; modifying current intake and exhaust opening durations based on the target opening durations via an intake continuous variable valve duration (CVVD) device and an exhaust CVVD device; adjusting opening or closing timings of the valves to the target opening or closing timings of the valves while maintaining the modified opening durations of the valves.

Abstract: A system of controlling an engine includes: an engine including a combustion chamber, an intake valve, an ignition switch, and an exhaust valve; a dual continuously variable valve duration device to adjust an intake duration of the intake valve and an exhaust duration of the exhaust valve; and a controller for adjusting an ignition timing of the ignition switch, the intake duration, and the exhaust duration based on a driving condition of the vehicle. In particular, until the temperature of the exhaust gas reaches a predetermined temperature after the engine starts, the controller sets the ignition timing to an ignition timing within a predetermined ignition timing range, sets the intake duration of the intake valve to an intake duration within a predetermined intake duration range, and increases the exhaust duration of the exhaust valve to a limit exhaust duration according to the set intake duration.

The method may include: classifying a plurality of control regions depending on an engine speed and an engine load; retarding an intake valve closing (IVC) timing and limiting a valve overlap between an intake valve and an exhaust valve in a first control region; advancing the IVC timing and applying a maximum duration to the exhaust valve in a second control region; advancing the IVC timing according to an increase of the engine load in a third control region; controlling a throttle valve to be fully opened and advancing the IVC timing in a fourth control region; and controlling the throttle valve to be fully opened and retarding the IVC timing in a fifth control region.

Abstract: A method for controlling valve timing of an engine may include: classifying control regions; applying a maximum duration to an intake valve and controlling a valve overlap in a first control region; applying the maximum duration to the intake valve and an exhaust valve in a second control region; controlling a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) of an intake manifold to be maintained constant in a third control region; controlling a wide open throttle valve (WOT) and creating a valve overlap by reducing interference of exhaust in a fourth control region; and controlling a wide open throttle valve (WOT) and controlling an intake valve closing timing based on the engine speed. In particular, the control regions are classified by a controller based on an engine load and an engine speed compared with predetermined values, respectively.

Abstract: A control method using a continuous variable valve duration apparatus implements a a continuous variable valve duration apparatus which includes a wheel mounted on a camshaft and having a wheel key so as to control duration of an intake valve of an engine, a cam unit having a cam and a cam key, adapted such that the camshaft is inserted thereinto, and being disposed so as to vary relative phase of the cam with respect to the camshaft, an inner bracket connected with the wheel key and the cam key, a slider housing being adapted such that the inner bracket is rotatably inserted thereinto and disposed so as to move vertically with respect to the engine, a controller varying a position of the slider housing so as to adjust rotation center of the inner bracket, and a guide unit guiding motion of the sliding housing. The control method includes calculating a required air amount for maintaining idle rotation speed of the engine by the controller when the engine is an idle state; mapping a supplied air amount in accordance with duration of the intake valve or the exhaust valve by the controller; setting a target valve duration for supplying the required air amount of the engine by the controller; and controlling duration of the intake valve or exhaust valve according to the set target valve duration by the controller.
