摘要: A method of producing a tire including mixing in a non-productive phase at least one elastomer with a polyamide having a melting temperature of less than 180° C. The polyamide is allowed to heat to at least its melting temperature. During the productive phase, at least one curing agent is added to the elastomeric composition. The curing agent may be a sulfur containing curing agent and/or a non-sulfur containing curing agent. The elastomeric composition may optionally include a crystalline EPDM elastomer. The resulting compositions may then be formed into a tire component which may be built into a tire and cured.

摘要: The present invention is directed towards speckled tire treads for tires. Specifically, the speckled tire tread includes a primary tread compound that serves as a matrix in which is distributed discrete particles of one or more secondary tread compounds, at least one of the compounds is a different color than the other tread compound(s) so as to be visually distinguishable. For example, the primary tread compound may include carbon black pigment and be black in color while the secondary tread compound can include one or more pigments to provide the particles with non-black color. Thus, the colored particles have a visually distinguishable color from that of the primary tread composition. Additionally, at least a portion of the particles may be situated for viewing on a running surface of the tire tread so that a subject can visually distinguish between the compounds, and such observed compounds may provide a different tire performance characteristic(s).

摘要: The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire with a built-in sealant layer comprised of a depolymerized butyl rubber based sealant precursor. The butyl rubber of the built-in sealant precursor composition is depolymerized in situ within the tire with an activated free radical generating organoperoxide. The organoperoxide is activated with a 2,2,6,6-tetra alkyl piperidine hindered amine. Representative of such hindered amines are, for example, a poly[[6-[1,1,3,3,-tetramethylbutyl)amino]-s-triazine-2,4-diyl][2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)imino]hexamethylene[(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)imino]] compound. The sealant layer, if desired, may be of a color which contrasts with black. For such purpose the sealant layer may contain a colorant of a non-black color to a substantial exclusion of carbon black. The butyl rubber-based sealant precursor is built into the tire as a layer to form a tire assembly wherein the butyl rubber-based composite portion of the sealant precursor layer is at least partially depolymerized by a said activated organoperoxide during a subsequent curing of the tire at an elevated temperature in a suitable mold to form the tire having the resultant built-in sealant layer. The sealant composition may additionally contain conventional clay, exfoliated intercalated clay platelets and/or calcium carbonate.

摘要: A retreaded tire comprised of a tread and carcass with an intervening rubber layer, conventionally referred to as a cushion, wherein the tread has an oil rich rubber-based adhesive on its inner surface at the interface between said tread and cushion. Said oil rich rubber based adhesive is free, or substantially free, of volatile organic compounds, particularly volatile organic solvents. Alternately, the oil-rich rubber-based adhesive may contain oil and volatile organic solvent wherein oil is the major component insofar as the oil and solvent is concerned.

摘要: A method is disclosed for processing a rubber composition comprising thermomechanically mixing at a rubber temperature in a range of 140.degree. C. to 190.degree. C. for a mixing time of 1 to 20 minutes (i) 100 parts by weight of at least one sulfur vulcanizable elastomer selected from conjugated diene homopolymers and copolymers, natural rubber and copolymers of at least one conjugated diene and aromatic vinyl compound; (ii) 10 to 250 phr of particulate precipitated silica; (iii) 0.01 to 1.0 parts by weight per weight of said silica of an organosilicon compound; and (iv) 0.05 to 10 phr of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. Addition of the sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate to sulfur vulcanizable rubber, silica and sulfur containing organosilicon compound decreases the mixing/processing time without sacrificing end product properties.

摘要: An improved method of bonding at least two cured or uncured elastomeric layers is disclosed. The method comprising placing an uncured elastomeric component (22) between the two elastomeric layers, and curing the elastomeric component to bond the elastomeric layers together. The improvement is characterized by forming the uncured elastomeric component (22) by preparing two non-productive elastomer compounds (10, 12), wherein each non-productive compound (10 or 12) is prepared with a co-reacting agent of a co-reacting cure package not added to the other non-productive compound (12 or 10), and layering the non-productive elastomer compounds (10, 12) in alternating layers with a thickness relative to the diffusion rate of the co-reacting agents in each non-productive elastomeric layer (10, 12) to effect diffusion of the co-reacting cure agents through the adjacent layers.
