Disclosed is a color optical link using a transparently jacketed plastic optical fiber which optically transmits data and uses light, scattered and emitted to the outside, for the purpose of illumination, and a method for achieving the color optical link. The color optical link includes a first driver for receiving digital or analog signals and a coloring signal in parallel and converting the received signals into optical signals through a plurality of light sources; the plurality of light sources for emitting light having different wavelengths in order to output the optical signals; a first POF coupler for inputting a plurality of the optical signals received from the plurality of the light sources into the transparently jacketed plastic optical fiber; the transparently jacketed plastic optical fiber having one end connected to the first POF coupler and the other end connected to a second POF coupler; the second POF coupler being provided for separating an optical signal transmitted from the transparently jacketed plastic optical fiber into a plurality of optical signals and respectively inputting the optical signals into a plurality of optical detectors; the plurality of the optical detectors respectively having filters for separating the received optical signal into plural signals according to wavelengths; and a second driver for receiving the optical signals from the optical detectors and converting the received optical signals into electrical signals.

A method for controlling a numerical aperture of a graded index plastic optical fiber through end rounding treatment of the GI POF. More particularly, the present invention discloses a method for controlling a numerical aperture of a GI POF by rounding the end of the GI POF into a convex or concave shape. According to the present invention, it is possible to increase an optical coupling efficiency of the GI POF thus reducing the volume of a whole system without using an additional optical system.

Disclosed herein are a novel perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether compound, a process for preparing a copolymer by using the perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether compound, and an optical plastic material comprising a copolymer prepared by the process. More specifically, the perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether has a particular molecular structure; the process is performed by copolymerizing the perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether compound with a common fluorinated olefin in the presence of a perfluorinated radical initiator; and, the optical plastic material comprises a copolymer prepared by the process and optionally a dopant. The copolymerization of the perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether with a common fluorinated olefin can provide a copolymer having a high molecular weight. In addition, appropriate control of the composition of the monomers can provide a completely amorphous copolymer. Since the polymer prepared by the process exhibits excellent thermal properties and is substantially transparent in the UV and near IR regions, it can be usefully applied to various optical plastic materials. Furthermore, a preform for a GI type plastic optical fiber fabricated by using the copolymer and the dopant has a high Tg, thus being stable, and a parabolic refractive index profile due to the presence of the dopant.

The upstream layer, scrim and cap layer can have a weight of about 4.0 ounces, 2.0 ounces and 3.0 ounces respectively. A downstream layer can be disposed between said upstream layer and said cap layer.
