A process for producing an inorganic-organic composition material based on gypsum and polyurethane comprising exposing calcined gypsum or anhydrite to the action of water in the presence of a polyurethane or polyurethane-urea which is dispersible in water and in the presence of up to about 20% by weight (relative to the total mixture) of an alcohol and up to about 20% by weight (relative to the total mixture) of another organic solvent, and allowing the composition to set while permitting any solvents which may be present to evaporate. The calcium sulphate may be on a textile support or the composition may be molded into flexible shaped articles of good mechanical properties.

Waste polyurethane materials are made re-usable by converting them to liquid mixtures. Such liquid mixtures are made by reacting up to 70 parts by weight of polyurethane with a low-melting polyisocyanate at 100.degree. to 250.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst. Suitable catalysts include the acid and neutral salts, phenolates, enolates and alcoholates of a metal of the 3rd, 4th or 5th Main Group or 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th or 8th subgroup of the Periodic System of elements. The thus-produced mixtures contain isocyanates and are suitable as an isocyanate component in the production of polyurethane plastic materials.

The present invention teaches a novel polyisocyanate lacquer binder and a method preparing it. The binder is prepared by reacing uretidione containing polyisocyanates optionally mixed with uretdione free diisocyanates with water or with low molecular weight compounds which have two alcoholic hyroxyl groups per molecule. Optionally these compounds may be mixed with up to 60 wt.% based on the total weight of hydroxyl bearing compounds, of low molecular weight compounds with one active alcoholic hydroxyl group per molecule. The proportion of reactants is so selected that the binder produces has from 5 to 20 wt.% of latent isocyanate groups in the form of unopened uretdione rings. The binder can then be mixed with polyhydroxyl compounds having molecular weights of 400 to 10,000 and conventional lacquer pigments and fillers. This mixture can then be coated on a substrate and the coating heated to above 110.degree. C to effect hardening.

The present invention relates to substantially colorless organic polyisocyanates, optionally in solution in an inert solvent, having a Hazen color index according to DIN 53 409 of at most 60 and a yellow value according to DIN 6167 of at most 3.0, characterized by a content of about 0.01 to 1 ppm (by weight), based on polyisocyanate, of an organic dye soluble in the polyisocyanate and having an absorption maximum of about 560 to 590 nm or a mixture of such dyes.The present invention also relates to two processes for preparing the substantially colorless organic polyisocyanates. In the first process, the organic dye is added to the prepared polyisocyanate while in the second process the organic dye is added to the starting materials used to prepare the polyisocyanate. Finally, the present invention is directed to the production of polyisocyanate polyaddition products from the substantially colorless organic polyisocyanates and isocyanate-reactive compounds.
