    摘要: An integrated intake manifold assembly including a poppet valve disposed at the air inlet to the manifold to regulate air flow into the manifold; a poppet valve disposed on the manifold to regulate exhaust gas flow into the air intake system; and a bi-directional camshaft with cams for operating simultaneously the manifold vacuum regulating (MVR) valve and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. The valve bodies are integrally formed in the wall of the intake manifold. The camshaft is driven by a DC motor and gear train. The cams are arranged on the shaft to provide optimum synchronized opening and closing of the related valves. When used on a diesel engine, the assembly may further include a swirl valve plate disposed between the manifold and the engine head and having a plurality of ganged swirl valves actuated by levers connected to the camshaft for coordinated motion with the MVR and EGR valves. Preferably, the swirl valve plate is also ported as a distribution rail to receive exhaust gas from the single EGR valve and distribute it to the individual cylinders. The valve poppets of the MVR and EGR valves include forked yokes engaging the camshaft to minimize side loading of the valve stems by the cams.

    摘要: An integrated fuel system for use in an internal combustion engine has a fuel meter body including a first, upper housing and a second, lower housing which are joined along a sealing flange to define a fuel plenum therebetween. The upper and the lower housings each have fuel injector sockets in opposed pairs; each injector socket in the upper housing opposing a corresponding socket in the lower housing. The sockets open through the respective housing walls and are configured to reversibly capture a fuel injector between each pair. The reversible mounting of the injectors within the fuel plenum facilitate fuel delivery from two sides of the fuel meter body to thereby simplify fuel distribution in a small fuel intake. A novel mounting configuration for the fuel meter body within the intake manifold is also disclosed.

    摘要: A valve assembly for regulating air flow to an internal combustion engine comprises a valve body having a valve bore forming an induction passage, and a shaft extending across the valve bore. A valve member is secured to the shaft for rotation in excess of 90 degrees between a nonactuating position and a maximum actuating position. The valve member passes through a zero degree position when rotated from the maximum actuating position to the nonactuating position. The flow area around the valve member when in the zero degree position is less than the flow area when the valve member is in the nonactuating position. A return mechanism urges the valve member toward the nonactuating position when the valve member is rotated away from the nonactuating position.

    摘要: A dual-purpose engine fitting is provided that may be used both during engine testing and during engine use, for vehicles with vacuum assisted brakes and for those without. The fitting has a body portion configured to fit within an opening in the manifold and defining a passage having opposing first and second ends. The fitting has a seal portion enclosing the first end of the passage. The second end of the passage is open to the manifold when the body portion is fit within the manifold. A thinned wall joins the body portion and the seal portion, establishing a predetermined fracture region at which the seal portion will separate from the body portion when sufficient torque is applied to the seal portion to thereby open the first end of the passage. A method of assembling vehicles is also provided.
