    摘要: An integrated intake manifold assembly including a poppet valve disposed at the air inlet to the manifold to regulate air flow into the manifold; a poppet valve disposed on the manifold to regulate exhaust gas flow into the air intake system; and a bi-directional camshaft with cams for operating simultaneously the manifold vacuum regulating (MVR) valve and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. The valve bodies are integrally formed in the wall of the intake manifold. The camshaft is driven by a DC motor and gear train. The cams are arranged on the shaft to provide optimum synchronized opening and closing of the related valves. When used on a diesel engine, the assembly may further include a swirl valve plate disposed between the manifold and the engine head and having a plurality of ganged swirl valves actuated by levers connected to the camshaft for coordinated motion with the MVR and EGR valves. Preferably, the swirl valve plate is also ported as a distribution rail to receive exhaust gas from the single EGR valve and distribute it to the individual cylinders. The valve poppets of the MVR and EGR valves include forked yokes engaging the camshaft to minimize side loading of the valve stems by the cams.

    摘要: In a method for forming an injection molded manifold, the portion of the mold that forms a septum is modified to provide a substantially thicker septum, preferably about 8.5 mm or greater. In the molding operation, one or more removable slides are inserted through this region of the mold, each slide being preferably about 2.5 mm thick and about 30 mm wide. The septum is cast around the slides which are then withdrawn from the septum after the polymer composite is set, resulting in a septum that is substantially thicker than a prior art septum, comprising first and second plates, each about 3 mm thick, and a plurality of open core voids about 2.5 mm high and about 30 mm wide between the plates. The improved septum is stiffer than a single 4 mm thick prior art septum, has a higher natural frequency, and improves suppression of engine noise.

    摘要: An edge-pivot charge-motion control assembly for controlling air turbulence comprising a molded sleeve inserted into a runner port of an intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. A control valve element is pivotably mounted in the sleeve for external actuation. The valve element pivots into a formed recess in a wall of the sleeve and thus may be fully removed as desired from the air stream. The system allows customizing of the valve shape and also the entrance and exit geometry of the runner sleeve as desired for any engine intake manifold, thus affording great flexibility in use with a series of engines of various displacements using essentially the same head. The charge motion function between engines, and even between runners in a given engine, can be changed inexpensively by changing a small, relatively inexpensive mold tool, rather than a large, very expensive manifold mold tool.

    摘要: An integrated fuel system for use in an internal combustion engine has a fuel meter body including a first, upper housing and a second, lower housing which are joined along a sealing flange to define a fuel plenum therebetween. The upper and the lower housings each have fuel injector sockets in opposed pairs; each injector socket in the upper housing opposing a corresponding socket in the lower housing. The sockets open through the respective housing walls and are configured to reversibly capture a fuel injector between each pair. The reversible mounting of the injectors within the fuel plenum facilitate fuel delivery from two sides of the fuel meter body to thereby simplify fuel distribution in a small fuel intake. A novel mounting configuration for the fuel meter body within the intake manifold is also disclosed.

    摘要: In a preferred embodiment, an engine coolant crossover assembly includes a crossover conduit member carrying an integral liquid cooled alternator and liquid cooled exhaust gas recirculation valve. The integration of one or both of these parts into the coolant crossover eliminates many parts from the total assembly. These parts include; attachment brackets, coolant hoses, hose clamps, cast mounting blocks, coolant tubes and attachment bolts. Reduction of these parts reduces system costs, assembly time, mass and potential coolant leak paths. A temperature sensor and a thermostat housing may also be included in the crossover assembly. The assembly may also be made part of an intake manifold for an integrated air fuel module of a V-type engine.
