    摘要: An A/D converter system that has a ranging detector that receives and characterizes an input signal. The characterizing sets a coarse range selection based on a level of the input signal. A higher level input signal has a higher level ranging. An A/D converter includes a compression system that compresses based on the ranging output signal by converting different numbers of bits for different level ranging output signal. A higher level input signal is more higher compressed and produces a digital output indicative of the input signal, which is compressed by different amounts based on the ranging output signal. By scaling in this way, the resolution of the A/D converter is scaled on the basis of shot noise level of the image sensor.

    摘要: A frame shuttered CMOS image sensor with simultaneous array readout. An array of CMOS pixels are printed on a silicon substrate. Within each pixel is a light sensitive region comprising a photo sensitive diode for converting photons into electrical charge and at least three transistors to permit reading of reset electrical charges and collected electrical charges and for re-setting the photosensitive diode. The sensor includes an array of signal and re-set readout capacitors located on the substrate but outside of the pixel array. Metal conductors printed in said substrate connect each pixel in said pixel array with a signal capacitor and a re-set capacitor in array of signal and re-set readout capacitors. Transistor switches printed in said substrate but outside of said pixel array are used to isolate the signal and re-set capacitors from each other and from the pixels. Control circuitry is provided for re-setting simultaneously each of the pixels in the pixel array, for collecting simultaneously re-set signals from each pixel on to one of the reset capacitors in the array of readout capacitors and for collecting simultaneously integrated pixel signals from each pixel on to one of the signal capacitors in the array of readout capacitors. Readout circuitry is provided for reading charges collected on the array of signal and re-set capacitors.

    摘要: An image sensor array that has a plurality of image sensing pixels and a plurality of programmable gain amplifiers, each of the programmable gain amplifiers connected to receive and amplify an output of said image sensing pixels. Each of said programmable gain senses when an output of the programmable gain amplifier is in an oversaturated condition. Responsive to sensing that the output of the programmable gain amplifier in the oversaturated condition, the amplifier automatically clamps a bias amount to the programmable gain amplifier, to thereby regulate an amount of current draw of the programmable gain amplifier. In this way, the power supply current to that pixel which is oversaturated is prevented from affecting power supplies to the other pixels, by regulating the power supply to the oversaturated pixel.

    摘要: A method of forming self-aligned silicides is described and applied to a substrate having an isolation area, which divides the substrate into a first area and a second area. A resist protective oxide layer is formed on the substrate, and subsequently a mask layer is formed on the resist protective oxide layer. Further, the mask layer includes an opening on the first area and another opening on a contact hole of the second area. When a resist protective oxide process is performed, the mask layer protects the resist protective oxide layer underlying the same from being removed, whereas the resist protective oxide layer under the openings are removed. Therefore, silicides are controlled to form on the first area and the contact hole of the second area in a subsequent self-aligned silicidation process.

    摘要: The invention relates to a method for protecting a touch screen of a hand held electronic device having a front face that includes a touch screen portion and a non-functional band. The method of the invention comprises providing a touch screen protector comprising a film having front and back sides, an outer perimeter that corresponds to that of the device, and a transparent window; and an exposed adhesive along the outer perimeter of the film surrounding the transparent window; and removably attaching the protector upon the outer perimeter of the front face of the device via the exposed adhesive to form an enclosed air space between the transparent window of the film, the adhesive and the touch screen portion of the device.
