摘要: This invention is directed to a process for preparing a molded thermoplastic fiber reinforced article having on at least one surface thereof a metal film and to a mold article prepared therefrom. The process comprises applying a first thermoplastic resin to at least one surface of a fiber mat core, then applying a metal film to at least one surface of the substrate of fiber mat core and thermoplastic resin and then molding the combination thereof under heat and pressure, preferably compression molding to form the finished article. A second thermoplastic resin may be applied to at least one surface of the combination of fiber mat core and first thermoplastic resin. Either the first and/or the second thermoplastic resin may be in film or molten form. If either or both are in film form, then it is preferable that the fiber mat core be heated prior to applying the film form of thermoplastic resin or at least the combination to preferably heated prior to molding thereof. The metal employed may be preferably copper or aluminum.

摘要: This invention is directed to a continuous process for producing a molded thermoplastic fiber reinforced article having a high resin concentration in at least one surface thereof. The finished article may be prepared by compression molding and can have a Class A surface. The continuous process includes coating at least one surface of a heated fiber mat core with a melted first thermoplastic resin, passing the fiber mat core into an extrusion zone wherein a melted second thermoplastic resin is extruded onto at least one surface of the fiber mat core and then molding the fiber mat core and thermoplastic resin into a finished article. The continuous process of this invention provides for fast production of molded finished articles such as roof tile, automobile exterior panels, house siding, etc.

摘要: A polymer resin extrusion head includes one or more annular extrusion modules in which a spiral channel having one or more convolutions extends from a resin inlet on the periphery of the module to an annular extrusion outlet. Preferably, the channel gradually opens into an annular frustoconical space leading to the extreusion outlet at the inner edge of the module. The spiral channel extends symmetrically around the extrusion module or modules in a manner so as to subject all of the extruded polymer flowing from the inlet to the extrusion outlet to substantially the same process conditions along the flow path. As a result, the polymer is distributed at the outlet with properties which are substantially symmetrical around the axis of the extrusion module or modules for all resin distributed to the outlet. It is preferable that the extrusion module or modules include a pair of mating annular members with central frustoconical portions having apexes with an axial dimension greater than the axial dimension of the outer portions of the modules so as to form air spaces around each module including frustoconical air space portions to avoid direct heat transfer between adjacent modules.

摘要: A modular extrusion head is disclosed including a plurality of cross head die modules, each including a flow path for a single resin. Molten resin layers are flowed from the modules onto a stepped mandrel and then along the mandrel and out an extrusion die to form a multi-layer parison. The layers are thin, with a uniform thickness and hole free. The modules are temperature zoned to permit flowing of a low temperature resin to and along the mandrel in contact with a high temperature resin without impairing the properties of the low temperature resin.
