摘要: A method of fabricating an integrated optoelectronic circuit. The method includes positioning a microchip on a first flexible dielectric substrate. A polymer electro-optic waveguide is positioned on or within the first flexible dielectric substrate. A ground electrode is positioned along the electro-optic waveguide. A signal electrode is positioned along the electro-optic waveguide opposite the ground electrode. A first patterned metallization layer is applied to the first flexible dielectric substrate. A second flexible dielectric substrate is positioned along the first flexible dielectric substrate. A plurality of via openings are provided in the first and second flexible dielectric substrates. A second patterned metallization layer is applied to the second flexible dielectric substrate.

摘要: The invention comprises a novel combination of microwave and photonic packaging to arrive a compact, self contained MZI modulator. The nature of the NLO polymer, that is, its large electro-optic coefficient reduces the drive requirements for the integrated power amplifier, allowing a small to medium power amplifier to be used. Microwave high density interconnect (HDI) packaging techniques allow the medium power amplifier to be fabricated into a small assembly, which can be mounted directly to the MZI substrate. The integrated amplifier and modulator provides a significant reduced size and lower power, and high bandwidth advantage when compared with existing devices based on inorganic materials.

摘要: An ultrasound system includes an ultrasound probe configured for sensing and transmitting ultrasound signals. The ultrasound system further includes an optical conduit configured for coupling a light source and an optical detector in an optical path. The optical conduit includes electro-optic modulators configured for modulating optical signals on the optical conduit with at least one of the electrical signals configured to generate corresponding optically modulated analog signals on the optical conduit. In one example, the electro-optic modulators comprise electro-optic polymer modulators.

摘要: A system and method for optical transmission of ultrasound data signals from a probe to an image processing system is provided. By using a silicon-based optical modulator to encode ultrasound data signals onto an optical signal, an optical transmission link between the ultrasound probe and the image processing system can achieve a high signal to noise ratio with a lower power input.

摘要: A plasma-assisted waste gasification system and process for converting waste stream reaction residues into a clean synthesis gas (syngas) is disclosed. The feedstock is fed into a reactor roughly one-third from the bottom through the use of a feed mechanism. The reactor has three zones; a bottom zone where melting occurs, a middle zone where gasification takes place, and a top zone with integrated plasma torches to control the temperature and polish the syngas. The residence times in the three zones are selected to optimize the syngas composition and melted products. The syngas leaves the reactor and is partially quenched with relatively cooler synthesis gas. The partially quenched syngas is further cooled to recover heat for steam generation and/or preheating the waste stream to the reactor. The cold syngas is then processed to remove pollutants. The clean synthesis gas is combusted in power generation equipment to generate electricity, or converted to other fuels by chemical processes.

A control system that may be embedded within the transformer is in electrical communication with the plurality of sensors. The control system is configured to estimate or determine the state of health of the transformer. The state of health of the transformer is based upon signals generated via the plurality of sensors. A load request that may be received that is compared to the state of health of the transformer to determine if the transformer can support the load request. The control system determines whether or not the transformer can provide electrical power based upon the estimated state of health of the transformer and in response to the load request.
