The intake system also is comprised of a plenum device, a plurality of runners and throttle bodies and an intake manifold that are attached as a unit to the rest of the engine body.     摘要: A number of embodiments of feedback control systems for two-cycle, internal combustion engine management systems. Each embodiment employs an exhaust system sensor which senses the exhaust gases by drawing exhaust gases from the exhaust of the engine. In some instances this is done directly from the cylinder and in others it is done in the exhaust system. In each embodiment, the sensor is provided in an accumulator chamber so as to provide an accurate signal of instantaneous engine running conditions. The use of the accumulator chamber insures that the combustible gases will not be diluted with fresh air charge, but will be able to purge from cycle to cycle so as to provide cycle-by-cycle information. Various arrangements are provided for protecting the sensor element including serpentine flow paths, shields, the direction in which the exhaust gases are delivered, lubricant catalysts, conduit shape, sensor cooling and combinations of these features. Furthermore, various structural elements help protect the exterior of the oxygen sensor from damage, such as housings, placement of the sensor within depressions in the engine and integrally forming the sensor in the cylinder block.

    摘要: A marine drive includes an improved transmission and shifting mechanism to facilitate a smoother transition when shifting into a reverse drive condition. The transmission includes a positive clutch and a friction-type sub-clutch. The shifting mechanism desirably includes a shift cam with first and second cam surfaces. The first cam surface effects actuation of the positive clutch and the second cam surface effects actuation of the friction sub-clutch. The first and second cam surfaces are configured so that the shifting mechanism causes the friction sub-clutch to engage before the positive clutch engages. As a result, the instantaneous loading on an engine of the marine drive when shifting the transmission into reverse is reduced.

The motor has an engine and a water propulsion device, the engine having an output shaft arranged to drive the water propulsion device. The cowling defines an engine compartment in which the engine is positioned and an air chamber having an inlet. The cowling comprises a cover and an air chamber base. The air chamber base is connected to the cover in a sealed manner and divides the engine compartment from the air chamber and includes a duct which extends upwardly into the air chamber. The air chamber base which defines an air passage leading from the chamber to the engine compartment. The air chamber base defines a surface sloping in a direction of a drain through the air chamber, whereby water drawn through the inlet is drained therefrom.

    摘要: An outboard motor includes an improved engine layout to provide a compact power head while simplifying the arrangement of components on the engine. In one mode, an induction system of the engine includes a carburetor that is arranged over a cylinder head. An intake pipe connects the carburetor to an intake port of the cylinder head. The pipe has generally a U-shape and loops around the upper side edge of the cylinder head. An air intake device is arranged upstream of the carburetor to supply air thereto. The air intake device includes a downward facing air intake opening that is located along a side of the engine below the upper end. This arrangement of the induction system that extends over the upper side of the engine produces a compact assembly without overly complicating the arrangement of other components on the engine, such as, for example, a manual starter device. With the present engine layout, the manual starter device is positioned on an upper side of the engine in front of the carburetor near a crankshaft of the engine. The air intake opening faces a lower air vent formed in a cowling below the engine. Cool air flows through the lower air vent and is drawn into the air intake opening for engine operation. This flow of cool air also cools the engine. The cowling also includes an upper vent to expel warm air from about the carburetor on the upper side of the cowling and to promote a current of air across the engine for cooling purposes.

On starting and warm-up, only that one cylinder is feedback-controlled at all times. Under these conditions, the amount of corrected fuel supplied to the feedback cylinder is added to a fixed incremental amount of fuel that will be supplied to the remaining cylinders.     摘要: An improved and simplified outboard motor construction wherein the exhaust system for the engine is formed with a minimum number of components and sealing joints. The exhaust system includes an elongated expansion chamber formed in the drive shaft housing. In addition, the drive shaft housing has a cylindrical section that is journaled within a swivel bracket for its steering movement. The volume between the external portion of the drive shaft housing and the internal portion of the swivel bracket forms a second expansion chamber that is employed for the low speed above the water exhaust gas discharge. The flow of cooling the water to and from the engine is controlled so that the exhaust gas interchange area between the power head and the drive shaft housing will be well cooled, as will the oil reservoir for the engine.
