摘要: The present invention generally relates to hemodialysis and similar dialysis systems, including a variety of systems and methods that would make hemodialysis more efficient, easier, and/or more affordable. One aspect of the invention is generally directed to new fluid circuits for fluid flow. In one set of embodiments, a hemodialysis system may include a blood flow path and a dialysate flow path, where the dialysate flow path includes one or more of a balancing circuit, a mixing circuit, and/or a directing circuit. Preparation of dialysate by the preparation circuit, in some instances, may be decoupled from patient dialysis. In some cases, the circuits are defined, at least partially, within one or more cassettes, optionally interconnected with conduits, pumps, or the like. In one embodiment, the fluid circuit and/or the various fluid flow paths may be at least partially isolated, spatially and/or thermally, from electrical components of the hemodialysis system. In some cases, a gas supply may be provided in fluid communication with the dialysate flow path and/or the dialyzer that, when activated, is able to urge dialysate to pass through the dialyzer and urge blood in the blood flow path back to the patient. Such a system may be useful, for example, in certain emergency situations (e.g., a power failure) where it is desirable to return as much blood to the patient as possible. The hemodialysis system may also include, in another aspect of the invention, one or more fluid handling devices, such as pumps, valves, mixers, or the like, which can be actuated using a control fluid, such as air. In some cases, the control fluid may be delivered to the fluid handling devices using an external pump or other device, which may be detachable in certain instances. In one embodiment, one or more of the fluid handling devices may be generally rigid (e.g., having a spheroid shape), optionally with a diaphragm contained within the device, dividing it into first and second compartments.

摘要: A portable hemopurification system can remove one or more uremic toxins from blood of a patient. The hemopurification system includes a dialyzer with a dialyzing membrane. Blood from a patient is provided to the dialyzer on one side of the dialyzing membrane, and a negative-pressure pump applies negative pressure on the opposite side of the dialyzing membrane to provide ultrafiltration of uremic toxins from the blood. The system includes a replacement fluid line to deliver replacement fluid to the blood. The system includes load cells to measure the replacement fluid flow, effluent flow, and returned blood flow. The systems uses the fluid weights for the control of pumps to provide stable flow through the system.

摘要: A system and method for balancing flows of renal replacement fluid is disclosed. The method uses pressure controls and pressure sensing devices to more precisely meter and balance the flow of fresh dialysate and spent dialysate. The balancing system may use one or two balancing devices, such as a balance tube, a tortuous path, or a balance chamber.

摘要: A soft cassette includes a body including a flexible material and first and second component. The body defines first and second lumens and first and second chambers. The first lumen extends between first and second ends. The first chamber is in the first lumen such that fluid passing through the first lumen passes through the first chamber. The second lumen is fluidly connected to the first lumen at a first junction between the first end and the first chamber and a second junction between the second end and the first chamber such that fluid passing through the second lumen bypasses the first chamber. The second chamber is in the second lumen. The first component is on a first side of the second chamber and includes a first ferromagnetic metal or magnet. The second component is on a second side of the second chamber and includes a second ferromagnetic metal magnet.

摘要: Methods and systems for performing an apheresis procedure with a reduced risk of citrate reaction occurrences are described. The volume of body water in the apheresis subject is used to predict the likelihood of a citrate reaction during infusion of a blood component to the subject and allows for establishing and maintaining an optimal flow rate of the infused blood component.

摘要: The invention relates generally to methods of treating or reducing the risk of Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), treating or reducing the risk of Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS), or increasing drug exposure in a subject undergoing CAR T-cell therapy or chemotherapy. The methods comprise contacting blood from the subject with an extracorporeal membrane having a plurality of pores having an average pore size of at least 60 kDa to permit inflammatory cytokines, other inflammatory molecules, or metabolites to pass through the pores and out of the blood that is returned back to the subject.
