Abstract:
A machine (100) for slitting a metal sheet has a number of knife assemblies (112) each containing a rotary knife (110). The knife assemblies (112) are mounted for movement along upper and lower arbors (104, 106) which rotate the knives (110) during a slitting operation. Upper and lower knife assembly positioning devices (114) are operable to releasably grasp the knife assemblies (112) for movement of the knife assemblies (112) to predetermined positions along the upper and lower arbors (104, 106).
Abstract:
A continuous casting and hot rolling apparatus for the parallel production for a multiplicity of rolled shapes, wire and rod of circular, oval and polygonyl cross section in which a continuous caster or flow shaper produces initially a plurality of discreet strands which continuously are fed to a hot rolling line and then can be diverted, if desired to a universal rolling unit in which pairs of strands are rolled alternately in vertical and horizontal rolls. The unit may be driven by a common motor and can have drive shafts for the respective stands located at the vertices of an isosceles triangle.
Abstract:
A rolling system has a die having a row of separate throughgoing passages for producing a plurality of continuously advancing and parallel hot metal strands and a plurality of pinch rollers for pulling the strands out of the die and moving them in a direction along a path. A vertical-roll stand on the path receives the strands and horizontally compresses them. A horizontal-roll stand on the path aligned in the direction with the vertical-roll stand receives the strands and vertically compresses them. The rolls are rotated to draw the strands downstream.
Abstract:
A roll stand for a rolling mill, comprising: a support structure adapted to be fixed at a selected location along a mill center line. First and second work rolls are configured and arranged to roll products directed therebetween. The first work roll has roll necks journalled for rotation in bearings contained in first chocks, and the second work roll likewise has roll necks journalled for rotation in bearings contained in second chocks, with the first and second chocks of the work rolls being arranged in pairs located on opposite sides of the mill center line. The first and second chocks of each pair are connected to the support structure for pivotal movement respectively about parallel first and second connecting axes which extend in parallel relationship with respect to the axes of the rolls and orthogonally with respect to the mill center line. An adjustment mechanism is provided for simultaneously pivoting the first and second chocks of each pair in opposite directions about their respective connecting axes in order to symmetrically adjust the parting between the work rolls.
Abstract:
In a wire rolling apparatus, a pair of first wall portions of a roll housing support the rotating shaft of a backup roll, and a second wall portion connects the pair of first wall portions to each other. Even if a large force is applied to the rotating shaft of the backup roll not only perpendicular to the wire feed direction but also opposite to it, the pair of first wall portions do not distort easily. Accordingly, the degree of abutment of the backup roll against the outer circumferential surface of the work roll is not easily altered, and a stable desired pressure can be obtained, so that a wire can be rolled with high precision.
Abstract:
A horizontal continuous casting apparatus comprises, in one aspect, a tundish in which a molten metal material is stored, a mold assembly connected air-tightly to the tundish for casting a round billet, and an extraction device disposed on a downstream side of the mold assembly for forming a billet having a predetermined shape from the round billet fed from the mold assembly. The extraction device comprising a plurality of formation roll units arranged along a casting direction of the round billet and the formation roll units are composed of horizontal circular roll pairs, press units for pressing the roll pairs against the round billet and drive units for driving the roll pairs.
Abstract:
In a method and apparatus for withdrawing a strand in a horizontal continuous casting installation, the strand is withdrawn from a mold by a predetermined stroke and then retracted by a smaller stroke corresponding to shrinkage of the strand. This cycle of withdrawal and retraction is repeated intermittently. A strand withdrawing and retracting characteristic of a cycle is set in a control unit, and pinch rolls for withdrawing and retracting the strand are controlled based on the set characteristic. Actual withdrawing and retracting strokes of the strand are detected by a detecting device and the detected signal is compared with the set characteristic to produce an instruction signal which is fed back to the pinch rolls, so that the positional accuracy of the strand and the quality of the strand are improved.
Abstract:
A twisting apparatus for use in multi-strand merchant bar and/or wire rod mills. The apparatus includes one twist roll mounted on a fixed housing and another twist roll mounted on a hood which is supported by and pivotally adjustable relative to the fixed housing, the said pivotal adjustment providing a means of varying the twist being imparted to the rolled strand passing between the two twist rolls.
Abstract:
A finely profiled copper electrode for electro-erosive boring having a multi-lobal cross-section of a plurality of radially extending arms having a thickness of less than about 80 microns and terminating within an outer circumference of less than about 600 microns, the electrode being formed by cold rolling a calibrated hard drawn copper wire with the ends of the arms being cut to size and shape. Such electrodes are especially useful in boring the openings in a nozzle plate for spinning profiled filaments of a fibrous polymer.
