A method of producing a liquid-cooled jacket constituted by fixing a seal body which seals the opening of a recess, by friction stir welding, to a jacket body having a partially opening recess through which heat transport fluid for transporting heat generated by a heat generating body to the outside flows, wherein the seal body is mounted on a supporting surface which is formed at the peripheral edge of the opening of the recess in the jacket body and consists of the bottom surface of a step lower than the surface of the jacket body, the side surface of the step of the jacket body and the outer circumferential surface of the seal body are butted each other, a plasticized region is formed by making one round of a rotary tool which is equipped with a stir pin having a length greater than the thickness of the seal body round along the butting portion of the side surface of the step of the jacket body and the outer circumferential surface of the seal body, and then the seal body is welded to the jacket body.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for forming a water tight seam useful in the production of water beds or water tight envelopes from flexible thermoplastic sheet material. A pair of thermoplastic sheets are thermally bonded to each other by a continuous first seam integrally joining the peripheral edges of the two sheets to each other to form a closed envelope. An elongate strip or band of thermoplastic sheet material is then thermally bonded to the joined sheets in overlying relationship to the first peripheral seam. The strip or band is automatically applied by a machine having a stationary head which is inserted into the interior of the closed envelope through a slit cut in one of the joined sheets for this purpose. A moveable head on the machine is then lowered into an operative position in which the joined sheets are clamped between drive rolls mounted in the two heads, the peripheral first seam joining the two sheets extending between the two heads in a direction normal to the axis of the drive rolls. The peripheral first seam cooperates with guiding mechanism mounted on the heads to assist in guiding the envelope as the first seam is progressively advanced through the heads by operation of the drive rolls. The strip or band is concurrently fed through the heads at the same time and is thermally bonded to the exterior of the envelope by means of heat supplied by a hot air gun and compression applied by cooperating drive rolls. One of the cooperating drive rolls is formed in a manner such that the strips or sheets are compressed in a pattern such that the thermal bond is mechanically sound and water tight, the uncompressed portions accommodating shifting of the material during the sealing process to minimize wrinkling of the seams.

    摘要: Apparatus which welds cut lengths of a thermoplastic film-tube in the manufacture of sealed sacks, said apparatus including: motor-driven guide members such as a pair of metal bands which grip a flat length of the tube transversely just below a cut open end thereof to provide front and rear side edges of the tube projecting from the guide members a distance approximately equal to the intended breadth of the weld, said guide members being arranged to advance the resulting projecting or exposed two-layer strip of tube end-face edges through the welding apparatus; a resistance member to contact the advancing strip to fold open its front side edge or leading edge as it is being advanced; knife means in the path of the advancing strip to cut it first at its front side edge and subsequently at its rear side edge; guide plate means to then fold apart the advancing strip; heating means to heat the inner surfaces of the folded apart strip to a fusing temperature; and finally means to press the two-layer strip back together to complete the weld.
