Abstract: An insert element for a vehicle wheel comprises several supporting bodies for supporting the insert element on supporting surfaces of the vehicle wheel. The supporting bodies have a supporting shoulder, which can be brought to bear against a supporting surface of the vehicle wheel, and a fastening extension with an axial hollow channel and with at least one outwardly protruding locking projection, arranged at an axial distance from the supporting shoulder, for engaging behind an installation opening reaching through the supporting surface of the vehicle wheel. The supporting bodies are designed as elastomer components which are elastically deformable in the radial and axial direction and sit with their hollow channel on a supporting core. The supporting cores bear a radially protruding retaining flange and are held on the rear side on the insert element. Each supporting body is held by the retaining flange in a form-fitting manner against being pulled off from the supporting core.

Abstract: A wire spoke vehicle wheel and method of assembly wherein the wheel rim comprises separate rim segments permanently joined to each other preferably in a friction welding operation. The outboard rim segment includes at least a first portion which cooperates with the inboard rim segment to function as an outboard rim bead retaining flange, and a second portion which extends radially inwardly therefrom. A hub, which includes openings for mounting to a vehicle axle spindle, is centrally mounted within the rim by a circumferential array of wire spokes extending between the hub and the inwardly extending portion of the second rim segment. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the second rim segment is friction welded to the first rim segment outboardly adjacent the outboard bead seat which forms a part of the first rim segment, and the centrally mounting hub is carried generally radially inwardly of the outboard bead seat so as to provide clearance beneath the rim base for a disc brake package, such that the preferred embodiments of the wheel are adapted for use on conventional front wheel drive vehicles.

Abstract: The invention is a differential and braking assembly for use in two wheel drive vehicles. The apparatus accepts rotary power through rotary input means and transfers it through a differential to two separate outputs, allowing the driving wheels to rotate at different speeds while the vehicle is cornering. A one-way clutch is employed to allow the two outputs to freewheel or coast in the forward direction, at the same or different speeds, without rotation of the rotary input means. Reversal of the rotary input means actuates a brake which slows or stops the differential case. This in turn slows or stops both outputs while still maintaining the differential action for vehicle cornering during deceleration. In addition, the apparatus includes an antiback travel feature which automatically engages the brake when the vehicle travels backward and a parking brake feature by which the brake remains set at the braking level employed. The brake may always be released by the application of forward rotary input power or by actuation of a brake release pawl which allows the normally non-rotational brake mechanism to rotate with the differential input. This also allows the vehicle to be driven in reverse by application of input power with a ''''direction'''' opposite to the normal input.
