Provided is a novel iridium catalyst complex which is useful in the dehydrogenation of alkanes. The iridium complex comprises the metal iridium atom complexed with a benzimidazolyl-containing ligand. The iridium atom can be coordinated with the nitrogen atoms in the benzimidazolyl-containing ligand to form an NCN pincer ligand complex. In another embodiment, the iridium catalyst is used, with or without a co-catalyst, in a dehydrogenation reaction converting alkanes to olefins. The reaction can be in a closed or open system, and can be run in a liquid or gaseous phase.

The present invention relates, in part, to the discovery that the presence of impurities in a reactor for dehydrochlorinating HCFC-244bb to HFO-1234yf results in a reduced conversion rate and/or a selectivity changeover from HFO-1234yf to HCFO-1233xf. By substantially removing such impurities, it is shown that the conversion rate may be improved and selectivity to HFO-C 1234yf via dehydrochlorination of HCFC-244bb is also improved.

Reactive groups are bound to the polymer. Said groups act as reactants in organic-chemical syntheses. Said solid phase reactants can be produced as bulk material or tubes, plates or rods, can be built in pressure sealed housings and can be used in flow-through apparatuses or microtitration fields for the synthesis of organic products. Potential active agents can be produced at high speed by using the inventive porous polymer/carrier solid phase reactants that can be flown through convectively, whereby production requires only little isolation and cleaning.

A method is disclosed for increasing in a composition the mole fraction of a compound selected from the group CF3CHCl2, CF3CHF2 and CF3CHClF relative to the total mole fraction of the other two compounds of the group. The method comprises (a) providing a gaseous composition comprising at least one compound of said group provided that (i) if the selected compound is either CF3CHCl2 or CF3CHF2, said gaseous composition comprises CF3CHFCl and the mole fraction of the selected compound relative to the other two compounds in said gaseous composition is less than its equilibrium amount at 50null C., and (ii) if the selected compound is CF3CHFCl, said gaseous composition comprises both CF3CHCl2 and CF3CHF2 and the mole fraction of the selected compound relative to the other two compounds in said gaseous composition is less than its equilibrium amount at 500null C.; (b) contacting said gaseous composition with a catalyst selected from the group of catalysts consisting of catalysts comprising chromium as an oxide, as a halide or as a halided oxide, in a valence state of three to six, and supported catalysts containing at least one metal selected from cobalt, copper, iron, manganese, nickel and zinc for a time sufficient to provide substantial equilibrium between the three compounds having said formula; and (c) providing during said catalyst contact a temperature within the range of about 50null C. to 500null C. at which the mole fraction of the selected compound relative to the other two compounds increases.
