Cold-in-place asphalt recycling is disclosed. A foamed asphalt may be produced by injecting water and optionally compressed air into a hot asphalt stream. A lubricating surfactant may be added to the hot asphalt stream to improve performance. The foamed asphalt may be mixed with reclaimed material to provide a uniformly coated paving material that can compacted to a desired density.

The invention relates to pavements for thoroughfares and related safety and/or marking elements having enhanced reflective properties, comprising 10 to 80% by weight of glass debris which contains at least 10% by weight of essentially reflective glass debris less than 20 mm in size. It also relates to a composition for such thoroughfare pavements or related elements. The invention applies more particularly to the construction of thoroughfares such as roads, cycle tracks, walkways, etc. or related elements such as concrete crash barriers, curbs of pedestrian pavements, bollards, etc.

The material may be a sand or other fine granular material with a binder comprising a styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer dispersed or dissolved in an oil which preferably is a soft grease at ordinary climatic temperatures. When laid, the surface may be maintained by periodic raking.

The method of disposal of hydrocarbon sludge (such as petroleum-derived sludge residue from a hydrocracker) comprises mixing the sludge with spent silica-alumina catalyst particulate fines, of particle size not exceeding 50 micrometers, so as to form friable aggregates of the particulate fines in which the individual particles are bound together by the sludge. The resulting formulation is useful, inter alia, for road-making.

Provided herein are roadways containing polyurethane materials. A roadway includes a base layer of a compacted in situ material and/or a wear layer disposed on the base layer. One or both of these layers may include the polyurethane material to bind other components in the layers and to form more robust and durable roadway structures capable of withstanding operating loads of the roadway. In some embodiments, the polyurethane material is added to the wear layer by mixing in situ soil and/or foreign aggregate with polyurethane material or by dispensing the polyurethane material over the existing partially formed wear layer. The base layer may or may not include a polyurethane material. The type, concentration, distribution, and processing of the polyurethane material in the wear layer may be the same or different than that in the base layer.
