    摘要: The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for measuring the haze value of transmissive samples. The apparatus comprises a first light source selectively configurable to emit a first light beam, a second light source selectively configurable to emit a second light beam, an integrating sphere having an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface configured to reflect light incident upon the inner surface, the inner surface further enclosing an interior volume. The integrating sphere is further equipped with an exit port configured to emit light from the interior volume of the integrating sphere. The exit port is positioned such that light from the first light source exits the integrating sphere without obstruction, and light from the second light source is diffused on the interior surface of the integrating sphere prior to exiting the exit port. A light detector is also included and is configured to generate a light-intensity signal when light exiting the integrating sphere has passed through a sample and is incident on the light detector. The apparatus further includes a processor configured to receive the light-intensity signal and generate an output signal to a user indicating the haze value. The present invention is also directed to a method of calculating the haze value of a sample using a stored calibration value, a diffuse transmission value (sample-absent diffuse light-intensity value), a direct transmission value (sample-absent direct light-intensity value), a measured diffuse transmission value (sample-present diffuse light-intensity value) and a measured direct transmission value (sample-present direct light-intensity value).

    摘要: A device for measuring light scattered by an information support in which a light source is used to expose a portion of the information support. A sensor having a light-sensitive surface and an output signal dependent upon the quantity of light falling on such surface is positioned behind an objective lens disposed between the information support and the sensor. The exposed portion of the information support is smaller than the field of view of the sensor and the sensor is disposed at a distance behind the objective lens where the quantity of light on the light-sensitive surface of the sensor remains constant to within 5% in the event of a variation of .+-.20% in the distance of the information support from the objective. The light-sensitive surface of the sensor is disposed within the beam of light scattered by the information support and emerging from the objective lens.

    摘要: Apparatus (10) and methods for measuring dark and bright reflectances of translucent sheet material (2) are disclosed. The apparatus (10) comprises first optical means for illuminating one side of the sheet material (2) with a source of electromagnetic radiation. A portion of the radiation is transmitted through the sheet material (2) and another portion of the radiation is reflected by the sheet material. The apparatus (10) also comprises optical gating means (30) that is positioned adjacent the other side of the sheet material (2) in a fixed position relative to the first optical means. The optical gating means (30) absorbs substantially all of the transmitted portion of the radiation when switched to a dark state and reflects substantially all of the transmitted portion of the radiation back through the sheet material (2) when switched to a bright state. The apparatus (10) further comprises second optical means for collecting the reflected portion of the radiation and the portion of the transmitted portion of the radiation reflected by the optical gating means (30) and retransmitted through the sheet material (2) to provide a total reflectance. The total reflectance has a dark reflectance intensity when the optical gating means (30) is in the dark state and a bright reflectance intensity when the optical gating means is in the bright state. The apparatus also comprises sensing means (60), responsive to radiation collected by the second optical means, for providing a dark signal having a magnitude corresponding to the dark reflectance intensity and a bright signal having a magnitude corresponding the bright reflectance intensity. The dark and bright signals can be incorporated in known formulae to compute values for quality attributes of the sheet material (2) including opacity and color.
