摘要: A laminated roofing shingle includes a base layer attached to an overlay layer. The overlay layer provides tabs extending from a long edge. The tabs have a width that is exposed when the shingle is installed. The exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a first color group for a first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a second color group. The exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from a third color group for the first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from the second color group. The mineral granules may be applied to a continuous sheet in color lanes from which the base and overlay sheets may be cut.

The roofing system comprises a multiplicity of courses of roofing shingles having a headlap portion, a buttlap portion, a lateral leading edge, and a lateral trailing edge, wherein the headlap portion has a width that is less than a width of the buttlap portion defining a reduced-width headlap, wherein the lateral trailing edge of a shingle in a course partially overlaps and partially abuts the lateral leading edge of an adjacent previously installed shingle to form an interlocking edge between adjacent shingles in the course, and wherein the lateral edge includes a trailing edge projection having a weather edge, a rear edge, and a variable breadth that increases toward the rear edge of the trailing edge projection.

In some cases, a roofing shingle may include a substrate, granules and a multilayer infrared light reflecting film disposed either above or below the granules. Such roofing shingles may exhibit improved solar reflectivity. An infrared light reflecting mixture may include inorganic granules and polymeric multilayer infrared light reflecting film particles. An existing construction surface may be treated to improve its solar reflectivity.

The roofing product can also include particles along a first exposed surface of the roofing product, wherein the particles include recycled roofing material particles. Methods of forming such roofing products are also disclosed.

The sealant material sites 60 of the first series are provided along a first axis (66) which is essentially parallel to the length dimension of the web. The sealant material sites (60) of the first series are discontinuous along the first axis (66) and separated from one another along the first axis by a first interval (70). The sealant material sites of the second series (62) are provided along a second axis (68) which is essentially parallel to the length dimension of the web and spaced apart from the first axis (66) with respect to the width dimension. The sealant material sites (62) of the second series are discontinuous along the second axis (68) and are separated from one another along the second axis (68) by a second interval (72), the second interval (72) being different than the first interval (70).
