摘要:
Asphalt-based roofing materials, such as shingles, are disclosed that include a band of a parting material. The asphalt-based roofing material includes at least one asphalt-coated substrate that defines a headlap portion and a tab portion each having opposed top and bottom surfaces; a layer of backdust applied to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the headlap portion and to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the tab portion; a release section of parting material applied to the layer of backdust, where the parting material is included in the in the range of 0.0005 kg/m2 to 1 kg/m2; and an adhesive.

A roofing system and roofing shingles for use therein are disclosed. The roofing system comprises a multiplicity of courses of roofing shingles having a headlap portion, a buttlap portion, a lateral leading edge, and a lateral trailing edge, wherein the headlap portion has a width that is less than a width of the buttlap portion defining a reduced-width headlap, wherein the lateral trailing edge of a shingle in a course partially overlaps and partially abuts the lateral leading edge of an adjacent previously installed shingle to form an interlocking edge between adjacent shingles in the course, and wherein the lateral edge includes a trailing edge projection having a weather edge, a rear edge, and a variable breadth that increases toward the rear edge of the trailing edge projection.

A system for manufacturing a granule covered roofing shingle includes establishing at least two sources of granules. A standardized process for manufacturing granules having a standardized appearance is then established, wherein a color of the granules from one of the sources of granules is substantially identical to the color of the granules from the others of the sources of granules, thereby defining at least one standardized granule color. Granules of the standardized granule color are then manufactured according to the standardized process. The manufactured granules are transported to at least one shingle manufacturing facility, and granule covered roofing shingles are then manufactured using the manufactured granules of the standardized granule color.

A roofing shingle including a lower layer including a headlap and a plurality of tabs extending from the headlap, and an upper layer including one or more fingers, wherein the one or more fingers are disconnected from one another, and wherein each of the one or more fingers is disposed on one tab of the plurality of tabs, wherein a number of the plurality of tabs is different than a number of the one or more fingers. In an embodiment, the lower layer is a lowermost layer of the roofing shingle. In another embodiment, the roofing shingle further includes an alignment feature disposed in an exposure zone of the roofing shingle, wherein the alignment features is adapted to permit alignment of adjacent roofing shingles during installation on a roof.

A shingle coating asphalt composition is provided that is produced from a paving grade asphalt. The asphalt composition comprises a paving-grade asphalt that has been modified with one or more polymer additives; and a secondary additive comprising one or more of a viscosity reducing agent, a wax, a salt of a fatty acid ester, and an amide of a fatty acid. The shingle coating asphalt coating composition is used to make a shingle. The shingle includes a substrate, the asphalt, and roofing granules.

A laminated roofing shingle includes a base layer attached to an overlay layer. The overlay layer provides tabs extending from a long edge. The tabs have a width that is exposed when the shingle is installed. The exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a first color group for a first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a second color group. The exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from a third color group for the first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from the second color group. The mineral granules may be applied to a continuous sheet in color lanes from which the base and overlay sheets may be cut.

A fire-resistant, composite panel comprising a core of rigid mineral fiber board having on one or both of its surfaces a layer of gypsum material bonded thereto, and in some embodiments, a layer of paper bonded to one or both of the layers of gypsum material opposite the core. A method of making a fire-resistant, composite panel including applying a thin layer of a settable gypsum slurry to one or both surfaces of a rigid mineral fiber board, and alternatively, applying layers of paper to one or both of the thin layers of gypsum material opposite the surface of the rigid mineral fiber board, and in either case, applying heat to the layer or layers of gypsum material to cure it.
