摘要: A process of forming a single color image which has improved abrasion resistance comprising:a) providing a thermal donor element comprising a heat-activatable image layer of a dye or pigment on a support, the image dye or pigment absorbing in the region of from about 300 to about 700 mn;b) providing a receiving element in superposed relationship with the thermal donor element;c) imagewise-exposing the thermal donor element by means of a laser or thermal head, thereby causing a change in the adhesion of at least a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to the receiving element or causing a portion of the exposed areas of the heat-activatable layer to diffuse into the receiver element;d) separating the thermal donor element from the receiver element, thus creating an image layer on either or both of the elements;e) charging either the thermal donor element or the receiver element containing the image layer to a given polarity or applying a voltage across the surface of the element which is attracted to a conductive surface behind the element;f) applying colorless, charged particles to the element containing the image layer which causes them to be electrostatically attracted to the surface of the image layer; andg) heat-fusing the particles to obtain a protective overcoat over the entire surface of the image layer.

摘要: Colored or metallic foil is applied to toner printed onto a substrate, such as paper, in a high speed, versatile manner, using a rotating impression cylinder, and a rotating transfer cylinder having circumferentially spaced heated raised portions. The toner, which preferably includes a thermoplastic component, is applied to the paper with any suitable printer, such as a computer controlled MIDAX (ion deposition) print engine. The toner may be heated by an infra red heater just before the paper is fed to the nip between the impression and transfer cylinders. A foil strip having an adhesive layer facing outwardly, a foil layer, and a release coating on a backing, is also fed to the nip, and the backing taken up downstream of the nip. Heat and pressure applied at the nip transfer the adhesive and foil from the foil strip to the tacky toner, producing the desired foil printed paper, which then may be further processed.

摘要: In a method of regenerating an ink image recording medium of a multilayered structure, after an ink image on the ink image recording medium is recorded, the surface of the heat-fusible ink layer of the ink image recording medium is uniformly charged. Then, a liquid ink for generating the ink layer, being placed under an electric field applied thereto, is supplied to the ink image recording medium. The liquid ink is prepared by dispersing heat-fusible ink powder into a liquid dispersion medium. As a result, the heat-fusible ink powder selectively sticks onto the portion on the ink release layer where the heat-fusible ink layer is absent because the ink was transferred. Finally, the ink image recording medium thus processsed is dried to remove the liquid dispersing medium.

摘要: This invention relates to a thermographic process of image formation and more particularly to such a process for forming images by heating, imagewise, to a temperature above a softening temperature, but below the thermal decomposition temperature, a solid layer of a mixture of a thermoplastic, amorphous, organic polymer and a liquid plasticizer therefor, the mixture being capable of existing in a metastable state and a stable state for a period sufficient to convert the stable polymer to the metastable state, heating the entire surface of the layer to a temperature between the softening temperatures of the stable and metastable state, and converting the softened exposed image areas to a visible image, e.g., by applying finely divided colored particles to the layer and removing them from non-exposed areas or thermally exposed image areas are transferred to a separate image receptive surface. The simple procedure is a dry process, and images of high quality and stability are obtained rapidly.

摘要: There is disclosed an addressing system including an addressing apparatus and addressing methods and materials used therein. A set of master cards is provided formed of porous tab card stock impregnated with a sensitizer vaporizable at 100* C. to 160* C. and having a selected area on one face thereof for the address in infrared absorbing ink; as disclosed, the master card is made by passing the porous tab card stock through a bath containing the sensitizer and a solvent therefor, after which the solvent is evaporated. The set of master cards is then employed to provide a master tape that is a strip of nonporous release material that is oleophobic and transparent to infrared radiation, and carrying thereon reverse reading copies of the addresses in the form of bodies of partially fused novel toner applied to one side of the master tape; the addresses are transferred from the master cards to the master tape utilizing a novel apparatus and method wherein a printing station is provided having a first source of infrared radiation thereat, first feed mechanism for feeding the master cards sequentially to the printing station and a second feed mechanism for feeding the master tape to the printing station to position a predetermined portion of the master tape immediately adjacent to the address on a master card positioned at the printing station, thereafter operating the first source of infrared radiation to vaporize from the master card sensitizer in areas corresponding to the address thereon onto the one surface of the master tape, applying a toner to the master tape to adhere toner to the sensitizer in areas corresponding to the address, and thereafter exposing the master tape carrying the powdered toner to a second source of infrared radiation for at least partially fusing the toner to provide a reverse reading copy of the address on the master tape. The novel toner comprises a vehicle body of wood rosin and polymerized resin, modifiers of polyamide resin and a hydrocarbon resin and pigment of carbon black. The master tape with the addresses thereon in partially fused toner is then fed to an addressing station where an envelope or other article to be addressed is placed with the surface thereof against the partially fused toner on a section of the master tape after which heat and pressure are applied thereto to transfer the bodies of toner to the envelope and fully to fuse the toner to provide on the envelope bodies of fully fused toner in areas corresponding to the address on a master card.
