A biological water retention material, a method for preparing the same and a use thereof. A Bacillus subtilis, named as Bacillus subtilis GE1, which has been deposited in China General Microbiological Culture Collection, Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences on Jan. 7, 2016, with a deposit number of CGMCC No. 11964, solves the problem of lacking a biological water retention material that fully combines water retention materials with microbial agents to increase the survival rate of silviculture under drought conditions by increasing soil moisture content as well as enhancing the drought resistance of plants. It is suitable for use under drought and water shortage conditions, and can fully utilize the coupling effect of water retention and bacterial agents, increasing the survival rate of silviculture under drought conditions and promoting seedling growth by increasing soil moisture content as well as enhancing the drought resistance of plants.

A method for capturing material extracted from biochar, the method comprising the steps of: (i) providing a biochar; (ii) contacting the biochar with a treating liquid, where the treating liquid causes the removal of solids from the pores and surface of the biochar, thereby creating a resulting solution or extract comprised of the treating liquid and removed solids; and (iii) collecting the resulting solution or extract. The method further comprises the step of apply the resulting solution or extract to soil or for use in other applications.

In accordance with this invention a binder composition for treating particulate material to form a solid aggregate matrix is prepared by providing a urea formaldehyde precondensate; a polar solvent; additional urea; an acid or salt thereof, the acid or salt thereof being selected such as to render the pH of the binder composition to a value from 2.0 to 5.3; providing a sugar; providing a binding promoter for enhancing the binding between the binder composition and the particulate material; and mixing the above so as to form a binder composition. The binder composition is mixed with particulate material and allowed to set into a solid aggregate matrix over a period of longer than 30 minutes from being mixed with the said particulate material.

Dry flowable solid compositions useful for preparing precision excavation and soil-grouting fluids are disclosed. The compositions are formulated so that, when added to water to form an excavation fluid, they enable the fluid in contact with unstable or sandy soils in the selected areas of the excavation to react and form silicate-based derivatives with lesser solubility and movement, thereby improving soil stability at the excavation wall.

Particle binding compositions useful for stabilizing soil and other particles comprise water, an endosperm, an iron compound, a strong base, and a pH adjustor. The endosperm comprises the carbohydrate and protein portions of grains, seeds, or tubers. The strong base is reacted with the endosperm in the presence of water added in order to ionize the carbohydrate and protein of the endosperm and render them more soluble or dispersible in water. The iron compound promotes an electrochemical reaction that assists in the formation of a silicate crystal matrix when applied to soil. The pH adjustor lowers the pH of the composition, which improves handling ability and renders the composition more compatible with soil. Optional components such as fibrous materials and/or seeds can be added to promote vegetation or revegetation of denuded soils.

A deep mix soil stabilization method comprises drilling into soil while injecting a soil dispersant and subjecting the soil and the soil dispersant to mixing to form a soil and soil dispersant mixture, said soil dispersant comprising at least one of i) an acrylic acid polymer or copolymer, or a salt thereof, ii) an acrylic acid/sulfonic acid copolymer, or a salt thereof, iii) an acrylic acid/phosphonic acid copolymer or a salt thereof, iv) a blend of an acrylic acid polymer with at least one of a sulfonic acid polymer and a phosphonic acid polymer, or a salt thereof; and, mixing a cementitious binder with said soil and soil dispersant mixture to form a predominantly soil-containing stabilized soil.

This invention aims to provide an inorganic porous body which can be ensured with high strength and high porosity and which is applicable to soil conditioners. The inorganic porous body has a pellet-shape having pores, includes 50% and more silica by weight, and 20% and more alumina by weight. Also, the inorganic porous body has a porosity of 40% and more by volume. The sludge, which discharged from casting foundries as sludge-wastes and which has an ignition loss of 20%, is utilized as a starting material. The starting material is mixed with water to make a mixture, the mixture is formed to become pellets, and the pellets are burned.
