Abstract:
A joint apparatus includes: a first holding unit which attracts and holds a first substrate; a second holding unit which attracts and holds a second substrate; a pressurization unit which presses the first substrate and the second substrate against each other; a first adjustment unit which adjusts a position of the first holding unit along a first horizontal direction; and a second adjustment unit which adjusts the position of the first holding unit along a second horizontal direction perpendicular to the first horizontal direction. The first holding unit is rotated around a vertical axis using the first adjustment unit and the second adjustment unit.
Abstract:
A friction stir welding method for joining steel sheets to one another by moving a rotating tool (10) along a section to be joined while inserting and rotating the same into the section to be joined, where two or more steel sheets overlap or abut one another, and using the softening of the steel sheets caused by friction heat between the rotating tool (10) and the steel sheets, and the plastic flow caused by stirring, wherein, according to the present invention, heating devices (4), which are positioned above and below the section to be joined so as to sandwich the same, and positioned to the front in the direction of travel of the rotating tool (10), pre-heat the section to be joined prior to the joining by the rotating tool (10). Consequently, it is possible to join quickly without any risk of joining failures or joining-tool breakage.
Abstract:
A method of fabrication by friction stir welding (FSW) at an interface between adjoining components such as pipe lengths of a pipeline. The components may comprise layers of different metals on each side. FSW is performed from one side of the adjoining components by effecting relative movement of a first FSW tool along the interface. FSW is performed from an opposite side of the adjoining components by effecting relative movement of a second FSW tool along the interface. Advantageously, FSW is performed simultaneously from both sides of the adjoining components, with the FSW tools applying loads in mutual opposition about the adjoining components.

Abstract:
Tubulars are joined to each other without rotation of the tubulars. A coupling is placed between the aligned tubulars and is supported for rotation or oscillating about its longitudinal axis. The tubulars are clamped in a manner that allows a compressive force to be transmitted to the coupling as the coupling is rotated. An induction device can preheat each connection site before friction welding and/or provide heat as the connection is made and is allowed to cool down. The process can continuously create a string of casing or liner that can be run in or drilled into a wellbore.
