    Abstract: A plate made of inorganic material comprises a support layer (1') of low thermal conductivity. Said layer is comprised of exfoliated vermiculite and a binder of compressed bodies treated at a temperature higher than 800 C and preferably 900 C, having preferably a density between 700 C and 1,400 kg/m . The plate may be coated on one side with a ceramic layer (4) such as ceramic enamel. In an alternative for paving, the support layer (1') may be provided with a protection layer (3') of terracotta. To produce such plate, a support plate (1) is formed preferably by thickening and hardening the binder-vermiculite mixture, and the support plate is then treated at a temperature higher than 800 C. Simultaneously or subsequently, one of the front faces is optionally provided with a ceramic layer. The plate may be used for wall and ceiling cladding with the aim of reducing the acoustical reflection.
