摘要:
A system and method of producing syngas from a solid waste stream is provided. The system includes a low tar gasification generator that gasifies the solid waste stream to produce a first gas stream. A process module cools the first gas stream and removes contaminants, such as metals, sulfur and carbon dioxide from the first gas stream to produce a second gas stream having hydrogen. The second gas stream is received by a power module that generates electrical power from the second gas stream. The process module may include one or more heat exchangers.

A direct carbonaceous material to power generation system integrates one or more solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) into a fluidized bed gasifier. The fuel cell anode is in direct contact with bed material so that the H2 and CO generated in the bed are oxidized to H2O and CO2 to create a push-pull or source-sink reaction environment. The SOFC is exothermic and supplies heat within a reaction chamber of the gasifier where the fluidized bed conducts an endo thermic reaction. The products from the anode are the reactants for the reformer and vice versa. A lower bed in the reaction chamber may comprise engineered multi-function material which may incorporate one or more catalysts and reactant adsorbent sites to facilitate excellent heat and mass transfer and fluidization dynamics in fluidized beds. The catalyst is capable of cracking tars and reforming hydrocarbons.

An apparatus for converting solid waste. The apparatus includes a container at least partially filled with a solution. A cathode and an anode are disposed in the container and at least partially submerged in the solution. The container further includes an oxygen supply and an opening in the container for receiving waste material into the solution near the anode. The anode and cathode are electrically coupled by an electrically conductive path. Oxygen molecules are reduced at the cathode whereby electrons are added to the oxygen molecules in the solution so that, together with H+ ions, water is formed. Electrons take part in the dissociation of the waste material in the solution and are accepted at the anode, hi addition, chemical reactions on the electrode surface occur. The electrons then move to the cathode through the electrically conductive path, producing an electric current between the anode and cathode.

The process and system of the invention converts carbonaceous feedstock such as coal, hydrocarbon oil, natural gas, petroleum coke, oil shale, carbonaceous-containing waste oil, carbonaceous-containing medical waste, carbonaceous-containing military waste, carbonaceous-containing industrial waste, carbonaceous-containing medical waste, carbonaceous-containing sewage sludge and municipal solid waste, and mixtures thereof into electrical energy without the production of unwanted greenhouse emissions. The process and system uses a combination of a gasifier (12), such as a kiln, operating in the exit range of at least 700° to about 1600°C (1300-2900°F) to convert the carbonaceous feedstock and a greenhouse gas stream into a synthesis gas comprising mostly carbon monoxide and hydrogen without the need for expensive catalysts and or high pressure operations. One portion of the synthesis gas from the gasifier becomes electrochemically oxidized in an electricity-producing fuel cell (26), into an exit gas comprising carbon dioxide and water. The latter is recycled back to the gasifier after a portion of water is condensed out. The second portion of the synthesis gas from the gasifier is converted into useful hydrocarbon products.

A novel process and apparatus for power generation from biomass and other carbonaceous feedstocks are provided. The process integrates a pulse combustor steam reformer with a fuel cell to generate electricity such that (i) efficiencies are higher than those of conventional and emerging advanced power systems, and (ii) emissions are lower than those proposed by the new environmental regulations, i.e. one-tenth of the New Source Performance Standards. The pulse combustor steam reformer generates a hydrogen-rich, medium - Btu fuel gas that is electrochemically oxidized in the fuel cell to generate electricity. The apparatus may be configured to produce only power or combined heat and power.

A method for the production of hydrogen having a gasification process (1) which gasifies a combusible material (a) and a gas treating process (1a) which purifies a gas (b) formed in the gasification process (1) to produce hydrogen, characterized in that the gas treating process (1a) comprises a gas cleaning step (2) contacting the formed gas (b) obtained in the gasification process (1) with water or an alkaline solution to remove a dust and a trace amount of an acidic gas such as hydrogen chloride, hydrogen sulfide or the like from the gas by absorption, and a carbon monoxide adsorbing step (7) contacting the formed gas (b) having been cleaned in the gas cleaning step (2) with an adsorption agent for carbon monoxide to separate carbon monoxide from the gas. The method can be employed for recovering the chemical energy stored in a combustible material in the form of hydrogen gas and further converting it to electric energy with high efficiency.
