A PTO transmission system in a vehicle for transmitting power to a PTO shaft driving an implement comprises a planetary drive unit having first and second input and output coupled to the PTO shaft. The first and second input are coupled to an output shaft of the vehicle engine and to an output shaft of a drive motor, respectively. A control system controls the transfer of power from a power source to the drive motor. The power source is a variable power generating source driven by the PTO shaft. The drive motor is configured and adapted to decrease or increase the rotational speed of the output of the planetary drive unit on an increase or decrease of the power transferred to it, respectively.

A control method is provided for a powertrain in a vehicle, the powertrain including an engine mechanically connected to a gearbox and an Electronic Control Unit (ECU), wherein the method includes allowing an extraordinary gear shift in spite of a first torque comparison indicating an expected engine output torque demand above a first general limit for allowed output torque associated with the extraordinary gear shift provided that: a second torque comparison indicates that the expected engine output torque demand after the extraordinary gear shift is within the limits of a second temporarily increased allowed engine output torque limit; and an extraordinary gear shift criteria is fulfilled indicating a gear shift is allowed the criteria being dependent on at least one parameter chosen among estimated fuel efficiency, engine efficiency, expected future torque demand, time of running the engine above the general engine torque limit and engine temperature.

A method and a system for choosing a transmission mode in a vehicle over the course of a road section, wherein the vehicle has applied coasting prior to this road section and wherein a highest permitted speed vmax is defined for the road section, below which an actual speed for the vehicle should be kept. A simulation of a future speed profile vsim_Gear for a possible gear position for a gearbox in the vehicle is conducted on the basis of a road slope obtained from map data in combination with vehicle positioning information and wherein the simulation simulates, when the road section lies ahead of the vehicle, an actual speed for the vehicle over the course of the road section. Next, an evaluation is carried out of whether a suspension of the coasting in favor of the possible gear position is recommended, wherein the possible gear position is deemed recommendable if a highest value vsim_Gear_max for the future speed profile exceeds the highest permitted speed vmax. The evaluation is then utilized in the choice of transmission mode.

The present invention relates to a motor vehicle with a clutch (3) and an automated transmission (9) between the engine and the drive wheels of the vehicle. The vehicle has a first electronic control unit (48) for controlling the engine, a second electronic control unit (45) for controlling the transmission, depending on a set position of a manual gear selector (46). The second control unit, with the gear selector in position for automatic shifting, selects a gear for starting off or under way, which is determined by the gear selection strategy stored in the second control unit as a function of various parameters fed into the second control unit. The invention is characterized in that the second control unit is disposed, at starting off or under way, to continuously perform computer simulations, at least on the basis of information on road incline and throttle opening position, of the future travel of the vehicle, for a set of different combinations of shift rpm:s and shift increments. This is in accordance with a criterion selected automatically or manually by the driver, using a switch. The second control unit selects out a shifting schedule which will be optimal in accordance with the selected criterion.
