摘要: Provided herein is a 3D microfluidic device mimicking an anatomy and physiology of a human lung alveolar interstitium comprising: at least one inlet and one outlet in fluid communication with an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber; an interstitium chamber that comprises an electrospun nanofibrous membrane to support the growth of lung epithelial cells and fibroblasts, at least one inlet chamber and an outlet chamber to provide a growth media to the lung epithelial cells and fibroblasts; a pneumatic chamber separated from the interstitium chamber by a water-impermeable membrane and a source of air in fluid communication with the pneumatic chamber; and an air chamber in fluid communication a second side of the with electrospun nanofibrous membrane of the interstitium chamber, wherein the air chamber is opposite the pneumatic chamber; wherein the integration of inputs and outputs mimics the anatomy and physiology of the human lung alveolar interstitium.

摘要: The present invention includes a method for selecting a subject for a targeted treatment for Parkinson's Disease, the method comprising: obtaining or having obtained a sample from the subject; measuring in the blood or serum sample the expression level of one or more first biomarkers; comparing the level of expression of the one or more first biomarkers from the subject's sample with the expression level of a corresponding one or more first biomarkers from a statistical sample representative of biomarkers in a normal subject; and if the subject is found to have a statistically different expression level of the one or more biomarkers when compared to the expression level of the corresponding one or more biomarkers from the statistical sample, treating the subject with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, an antioxidant, or both.

摘要: The hydrophobic and corrosion resistive film of cross-linked poly(hexafluoroisopropyl methacrylate) was prepared by photopolymerization. The starting materials were a monomer of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropyl methacrylate, a photoinitiator of hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone, and a cross-linker of poly(ethyleneglycol diacrylate). Photopolymerization was used to start polymerization and to cure the polymer film on an aluminum surface. Drop-casting was used to deposit the fluoropolymer onto an aluminum substrate (AA 3003). The fluoropolymer film has high corrosion protection when measured by potentiodynamic polarization and open circuit potential techniques in an aqueous solution of 3.5% NaCl. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was used to monitor the polymerization process. The dynamic contact angle technique was used to measure the hydrophobicity for the fluorinated polymer coating. Thermal stability of the fluorinated polymer was measured using thermogravimetric analysis. Treatment with strong acid followed by contact angle measurements before and after the treatment confirmed the chemical resistance for the coated aluminum.

The electromagnetic actuator is configured to stretch the stretchable surface along one-dimension. A method can include spin-coating a weight ratio of about 10:1 about 1:1 of a polydimethylsiloxane resin to a curing agent mixture on a surface to form a stretchable surface, removing the stretchable surface from the surface, coupling an electromagnetic actuator to the stretchable surface, and stretching the stretchable surface along one-dimension using the electromagnetic actuator.
