摘要: Disclosed are advantageous methods for patterning and/or mineralizing biomaterial surfaces. The techniques described are particularly useful for generating three-dimensional or contoured bioimplant materials with patterned surfaces or patterned, mineralized surfaces. Also provided are various methods of using the mineralized and/or patterned biomaterials in tissue engineering, such as bone tissue engineering, providing more control over ongoing biological processes, such as mineralization, growth factor release, cellular attachment and tissue growth.

摘要: The present invention comprises an implantable device that provides artificial tissues for repair, augmentation and reconstructive surgery which have mechanical properties comparable to the natural tissues that they supplement or replace. Such devices can be produced by a tissue engineering method comprising seeding a polymer matrix with a first cell type and a second cell type and culturing the seeded matrix under conditions suitable for cell growth or maintenance, whereby a tissue comprising a mixed cell population containing both the first and second cell types is produced. The tissue produced by this method contains a mixed population in which the two cell types are intimately associated without apparent stratification and has mechanical properties which are intermediate between similarly produced tissues containing either one of the two cell types. This invention is particularly useful in forming implantable structural members.

摘要: A method for screening of an active voice mail message enables real time monitoring by a subscriber to the voice mail system of incoming calls. Once the identity of the subscriber is established, the subscriber is presented with the option of screening an incoming message. A subscriber desiring to screen the message responds by activating a predetermined key or sequence of keys to enter a listen-only mode for monitoring of the incoming message. The subscriber may then interrupt the message and take the call, continue listening to the incoming message, or terminate listen-only mode and simply permit the message to be stored for later retrieval.

摘要: In one embodiment, a cordless telephone according to the invention includes a base unit, including a paging mechanism, and a handset, including an alerting mechanism responsive to the paging mechanism. At least one of the base unit and the handset includes a page adjusting mechanism to affect an alerting signal output from the alerting mechanism based on a condition. Thus, the paging signal is adaptive to increase the opportunity for a user to determine the location of a misplaced handset. In another embodiment, a cordless telephone is equipped so that the base unit can provide an indication related to a distance between the base unit and the handset. In yet another embodiment, a cordless telephone is equipped so that the paging mechanism is adjusted based on user control. In a further embodiment according to the invention, a method is provided for affecting an alerting signal output by an alerting mechanism of a cordless telephone handset. The method includes the steps of sensing a condition, and affecting the alerting signal based on the sensed condition.

摘要: A valve manifold that is adapted to be positioned between a main flow line and a measuring instrument, including a body; a pair of fluid flow passages in said body, each having one port for coupling with the main flow line and an opposite end port for coupling with the measuring instrument; a pair of valve members for controlling the fluid flow through the respective pair of fluid flow passages; and a pair of handles for respectively controlling said pair of valve members. Each of the valve members includes a control end coupling with a respective handle to control the position of the valve member and a valving end adapted for positioning in a valve passage that extends transverse to the fluid flow passage. Each valve member further has a resilient seal member that is supported by either the body or valve member and that, in a closed position, provides a seal about the fluid flow passage between the valve member and body so as to inhibit fluid flow through the fluid flow passage, and that, in at least a partially open position, enables fluid flow through the fluid flow passage.

摘要: Unique, electronic mailboxes may be configured to allow multiple users to use a single mailbox for storing messages and for screening messages using information related to the messages, such as the name and telephone number of the originator of a message. The unique mailboxes may be configured using systems and methods which make use of user-defined filters which may be applied to each mailbox. Each mailbox may be additionally protected by a password for changing the user defined filters and for retrieving messages.

摘要: A catheter including a body for insertion into a blood vessel of a medical patient. The body including an interface thereon which is the portion of the body that is inserted into and in contact with the skin or blood vessel of the patient. The interface includes texture on its exterior surface such that when the catheter body is inserted into the blood vessel, the texture secures the catheter body from migration at the point of entry of the catheter body into the patient. The texture is obtained by scoring or molding an irregular surface along the length of the interface. In the event that the catheter is configured for use with an introducer or cannula, portions of the introducer or cannula may also be textured in accordance with the invention.

摘要: Building a database from stored backup data images. In one aspect, an identification of a target image is received, the target image including a copy of a logical storage unit of data from a previous database and description information that describes the previous database. The target image holds a copy of a subset of the data of the previous database. A received list has at least one desired logical storage unit of data from the previous database to be included in a built database. The desired logical storage unit is restored from at least one stored data image to the built database using the description information in the target image. Other aspects include the target image being a database image, and the desired logical storage units of data being a subset of database data.
