Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for alleviating processing requirements of a central computer in a vessel. Each apparatus is placed in close proximity to one or more pieces of electronic equipment implementing a legacy interface. The apparatus processes data to and from the electronic equipment, including converting data to formats consistent with the formats used by the intended recipient.
Abstract:
An electronic business postal system collects, clears and delivers electronic business mail through a closed access, secure messaging system. A collection subsystem consists of access portals that are associated with secured system nodes. The access portals provide authenticated users access to the system to send and retrieve electronic business mail that includes postal system electronic delivery addresses, physical delivery addresses, or both. Secured message servers that are associated with the respective access portals process the electronic business mail into uniquely identified messages for delivery over the system nodes and also process received messages to provide the corresponding electronic business mail to the intended recipients through associated access portals. A delivery subsystem directs the messages through the system nodes associated with the senders' access portals to the system nodes associated with the recipients' access portals. A clearance subsystem confirms the integrity of both the messages and their delivery and ensures that each message is delivered once and intact.
Abstract:
An aneurysmal repair system that utilizes a modified intraluminal scaffold apex and a delta stitch suture to secure graft material to the scaffold structure allows for no relative movement between the graft material and the scaffold structure. The absence of relative movement reduces the wear on the graft material.
Abstract:
A method for providing a porous metal implant. A mixture of a biocompatible metal, a spacing agent, and a binder is provided. The mixture is formed into a shaped the spacing agent is removed to form a plurality of pores in the implant. A shaped porous metal implant is also provided.
Abstract:
An electrically conductive film contains electrically connected first and second visible light-transmissive metal or metal alloy layers separated by a visible light-transmissive crosslinked polymeric layer. The film can be joined or laminated into glazing (especially non-planar vehicular safety glazing) with reduced likelihood that the metal or metal alloy layers will be damaged or distorted. The film also can transparently shield a device that can cause or is sensitive to electromagnetic interference with reduced likelihood that the metal or metal alloy layers will fracture.
Abstract:
Methods for modifying preform core ovality during and subsequent to the formation of an optical fiber preform. After MCVD deposition forms the core rod, but prior to overcladding of the core rod, the code rod may be etched to change its ovality. In order to etch the core rod, the core rod may be mounted to lathe, rotated by at least two rotors, and subjected to a heat source. Additionally, one of the at least two rotors may be phase-shifted from another one of the at least two rotors after the core rod is mounted on the lathe.
Abstract:
A heat mirror film containing visible light-transmissive and infrared reflective film comprising a birefringent dielectric multilayer support that reflects at least 50% of light in a band at least 100 nm wide in a wavelength region of interest, a metal or metal alloy layer whose thickness is such that the film is visible light-transmissive and its reflection band is broadened, and a crosslinked polymeric layer has improved infrared reflecting properties. The film can be joined or laminated into glazing (especially non-planar vehicular safety glazing) with reduced likelihood that the metal or metal alloy layer will be damaged or distorted.
Abstract:
The present invention includes compositions, kits, and methods useful for the detection of bacteria. These agents and methods are primarily directed to a method of detecting the presence of bacteria in a sample, involving incubating the sample with an agent that binds to bacteria, such as, e.g., an agent specific for peptidoglycan or a component thereof, and then detecting bound bacteria. The invention includes lateral-flow immunoassay methods and devices for assessing the total bacterial load in a liquid sample.
Abstract:
A mailable photo album is constructed from a single cover folded to enclose a plurality of sleeves. The cover formed from a lightweight semi-stiff material is folded to have a top flap attached to a back flap by a side attachment flap. The top cover is held in the closed position by a closing flap, the closing flap attached to the back flap by a second side attachment flap. The sleeves of the mailable photo album are constructed form sandwiches of clear flexible material to create pockets for storage and viewing of photographs stored within the sleeve pockets. The sleeves are attached to the cover by securing one end of the sleeve to a securing flap.
Abstract:
An underbody car wash sprayer for home-use, which can be hooked up solely to a garden hose or in combination with a pressure washer. The device utilizes a three nozzled “I” design, supported by four swiveling casters. In addition, it is connected to an ergonomically effective wand system to allow easy maneuverability under the vehicle. Finally, in some embodiments a trigger spray gun acts as a handle and pressure regulator. The compactness of the specific design allows for significant material reduction and hence a reduction in production costs, providing the consumer with a more economical choice. Additionally, the concentrated pressure and spray pattern of the “I” design along with its precision maneuverability allows the consumer to easily access and forcefully remove sediment adhesions to the vehicle underbody while controlling water flow at all times with a trigger spray gun.
