    摘要: A method, composition and filter for reducing the presence of sludge or varnish precursors in a lubricating oil circulating within an internal combustion engine. The lubricating oil containing sludge or varnish precursors is contacted with discrete particles of an oil insoluble, oil wettable compound having an antioxidant functional group and/or a dispersant functional group, which are capable of complexing with sludge or varnish precursors. Preferably the compounds comprises a crosslinked amine having ethylene amine functionality. The starting polyethylene amines have a number average molecular weight in the range of about 100 to about 60,000, preferably 200 to 250 and are crosslinked with a silicon oxide, silane, silicate, epoxide, quinone, or phenol-formaldehyde crosslinking agent. The particles are encaged within a one or two stage oil filter together with filtering media such as chemically active filter media, physically active filter media and inactive filter media.

The composition has a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. (Kv100) from 2 to 300 cst, a kinematic viscosity at 40° C. (Kv40) from 5 to 4000 cst, a viscosity index (VI) from −100 to 300, and a Noack volatility of no greater than 90 percent. A process for producing the composition, a lubricating oil base stock and lubricating oil containing the composition, and a method for improving one or more of solubility and dispersancy of polar additives in a lubricating oil containing the composition.

    摘要: The invention is related to a geminally disubstituted olefin-carbon monoxide-ethylene polymer. The invention is also related to a method for preparing geminally disubstituted olefin-carbon monoxide-ethylene polymers by reacting a geminally disubstituted olefin feed, a carbon monoxide feed and an ethylene feed under free radical polymerization conditions. The invention is further related to a geminally disubstituted olefin-carbon monoxide-ethylene-X polymer, where monomer X is a free radical polymerizable monomer. The invention is also directed to a method for preparing geminally disubstituted olefin-carbon monoxide-ethylene-X polymers by reacting a geminally disubstituted olefin feed, a carbon monoxide feed, an ethylene feed and a feed containing monomer X under free radical polymerization conditions. The polymers of the invention are useful as polyvinyl chloride plasticizers.

    摘要: This invention relates to novel compositions of matter comprising free radical adducts of a fullerene with one or more saturated hydrocarbons having a number average molecular weight ranging from about 200 to about ten million. Attachment of saturated hydrocarbons to as many as fourteen sites on the fullerene surface can be achieved via free radical initiated reactions. Fullerenes also add to saturated hydrocarbons with functional groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, carboxy, and carboalkoxy radicals in the presence of a free radical initiator. Said radical adducts of substantially saturated hydrocarbons with fullerenes react further with alkylamines and polyamines to produce new compositions. The radical adducts, and their aminated derivatives are useful as dispersants and viscosity modifiers in lubricants. In the presence of free radical initiators, said fullerenes can also crosslink substantially saturated polymers having number average molecular weight ranging from about 50,000 to about 500,000. The crosslinked polymers, are useful as new membranes and composites.
