Abstract:
A process and apparatus for insertion of a stuffer plug (18) within a hollow section of a automotive weatherseal extrudate (10) is provided which operates by insertion of a needlelike section (20) of a dispenser unit through a wall of the extrudate into the hollow section. A stuffer plug precursor is then injected or inserted into the hollow section and the needle-like section of the dispenser is removed. The stuffer plug precursor (22) then forms a stuffer plug (18) within the hollow section. Preferably, the stuffer plug is a two part polyurethane which reacts chemically to form a polyurethane foam stuffer plug (18) within the hollow section. An easier method for establishing a stuffer plug (18) within an extrudate (10) is provided.

A welded item is shown having an extruded weld bead with a high tensile strength relative to the layers from which it is formed. A valve with an insert is shown. A ball with an internal plenum is shown.
Abstract:
A low-section tire includes an air tube including an internal wall and two air tube sidewalls. The internal wall comprises a greater rigidity than the tube sidewalls so that, when a carcass and the tube are mounted on a rim, and during inflation, the tube sidewalls contact the carcass sidewalls no later than the internal wall contacts a crown portion of the carcass. A process for manufacturing the air tube includes moulding two tube sidewalls separated from each other, moulding a central core, arranging the tube sidewalls and central core in a single vulcanization mould, closing the vulcanization mould to form the tube, feeding pressurized fluid into at least two distinct circumferential portions of the tube, and vulcanizing the tube to join the central core and tube sidewalls. A mould for manufacturing the an air tube includes two axially-external cheeks, two axially-intermediate male dies, and two axially-inner spacers.
Abstract:
To provide a tire tube having excellent sealing performance and durability. An inside of a tire includes a peripheral wall having an approximately circular cross-section which is partitioned by a partition wall into an outer peripheral side sealant chamber and an inner peripheral side air chamber. The sealant chamber is filled with a sealant having a thickness in the diameter direction in a range of 0.5 to 1.5 mm.
Abstract:
The present invention provides mobile sealant compositions that are particularly useful for bicycle tire tubes and the like. The improvements include a novel particulate for use in the sealant composition that is greatly conformable for closing pores in a plug. Another improvement includes a balanced fiber composition as part of the sealant. Also, the carrier fluid is formulated to substantially reduce losses due to gaseous diffusion by preferably utilizing high levels of ethylene glycol, such as greater than about 60 percent.
Abstract:
A self-healing tire system containing a tire casing, a tacky sealant material, an inner tube and anti-tack material is described. In one embodiment, either the surface of the inner tube or the inner surface of the tire casing is coated with the tacky sealant material. The surface of the sealant, the opposing surface or both are coated with the anti-tack material. The anti-tack material renders the sealant non-tacky for a sufficient time so that the inner tube can be inserted and inflated. However, the anti-tack material allows the sealant surface to become tacky again thereby adhering to the tube and providing for sealing of the tube when it is punctured. In another embodiment, a release agent is contained between the sealant and the tire casing which facilitates removal of the sealant and tube from the tire casing.
Abstract:
A fire extinguisher for automotive use is provided with the additional capability of sealing and reinflating a flat tire without any wheel removal. The device is charged with a combination fire-extinguishing and tire-sealing composition, and fitted with a removable nozzle for extinguishing fires. To seal and inflate a flat tire, the nozzle is removed, and, in its place, one end of an adaptor hose assembly is attached to the fire extinguisher, and the other end is connected to the tire valve with the wheel rotated to place the puncture or leak at the bottom. Then actuating the device dispenses sealant into the tire while inflating it, after which vehicle movement distributes the sealant and generates heat which accelerates the tire-sealing action and further inflates the tire to a higher pressure, enabling the vehicle to proceed to a service station.
Abstract:
A sealing system and sealing composition are provided for inflatable articles containing air under pressure. The sealing composition includes particles or particulates of shapes having sharp corners thereon which tend to dig into the article around the opening and wedge themselves therein. The sealing composition also includes fibers, at least some of which are fibrillated. The fibers tend to wrap around the particles and further plug the leak opening. The particles and the fibers are in a liquid carrier which also tends to form a bond of the particles and fibers in the leak opening. The particles in the composition are of particular ranges of sizes for different articles, the larger particles being used in larger articles, such as large tires for construction machines, for example.
Abstract:
Self-curing elastomeric compounds in liquid suspension are sprayed onto a warmed rotating former having preferably a form developed from the radial dimensions of the inner tube to be made. The tube is cured and complete on the form by transposing one end of the sleeve to the opposite axial end of the former where the one end is seamed to the other end of the sleeve. Both the process and the tube produced by the process have advantages in manufacturing cost, in material saving, and at least equal quality performance relative to conventional inner tubes and methods of making them.
Abstract:
Herein disclosed is a tire valve core mounting apparatus for mounting one or more valve cores into one or more valve stems. The tire valve core mounting apparatus comprises an annular member adapted to be intermittently rotated through a constant angle and having therein a plurality of valve stem holding bores being in circumferentially equidistant relation with respect to one another, each valve stem holding bore extending radially of the annular member, and a plurality of locking mechanisms mounted on the annular member for locking the valve stem in the valve stem holding bores, a valve core supplying and screwing arrangement fixed with respect to the annular member for supplying a valve core to a valve stem held in one of the valve stem holding bores per an angle of rotation of the annular member and for screwing the valve core into the valve stem, and disengaging means fixed with respect to the annular member and spaced in the rotation direction of the annular member from the valve core supplying and screwing arrangement for disengaging the valve stem from the valve stem holding bore.
