    Abstract: The present invention relates to new and novel tire construction and method of making same wherein the uncured elastomeric material that is laid upon the tire building drum during building of the tire preform will not experience substantially meridional stretch which would otherwise cause a decrease in the uniformity of ply thickness during expansion of the preform in the vulcanizing mold.

    Abstract: A tire has a toroidal-shaped carcass and an airtight layer which contains at least one ductile metal layer. In one embodiment the airtight layer is a deformable metal layer having a thickness less than or equal to 5 &mgr;m applied on the interior surface of the tire carcass by a support carrier on which the metal layer has been deposited. The support carrier may be retained as part of the tire or removed after applying the metal layer on the interior surface of the tire carcass.

    Abstract: It has been unexpectedly found that certain blends of styrene-butadiene rubber and platey filler exhibit both good gas barrier properties and good tensile fatigue properties. These blends accordingly have the requisite characteristics for a tire innerliner material. They offer the advantage of being much less expensive than halobutyl rubbers which can be employed for the same purpose. The present invention more specifically discloses a pneumatic tire having an integral innerliner wherein said innerliner is comprised of a blend of (1) from about 40 phr to about 99 phr of a first styrene-butadiene rubber having a bound styrene content of about 15 percent to about 30 percent, (2) from about 1 phr to about 60 phr of a high styrene content styrene-butadiene rubber having a bound styrene content of about 40 percent to about 60 percent, and (3) from about 40 phr to about 125 phr of platey filler. The subject invention also discloses a pneumatic tire having an integral innerliner wherein said innerliner is comprised of (1) a styrene-butadiene rubber having a bound styrene content of about 15 percent to about 30 percent, and (2) from about 125 phr to about 200 phr of platey filler.

    Abstract: The subject invention discloses the use of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene in the supporting carcass and/or innerliner of a tire. The incorporation of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene into rubber compositions which are utilized in the supporting carcass or innerliner of tires greatly improves the green strength of those compositions. The incorporation of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene into halogenated butyl rubbers which are utilized as innerliner compositions also greatly improves the scorch safety of such compositions. The subject invention more specifically discloses a pneumatic rubber tire which comprises a circumferential rubber tread, a supporting carcass therefor, two spaced beads, two rubber sidewalls connecting said beads and an innerliner; wherein said supporting carcass is comprised of from 1 to 25 phr of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene having a melting point which is within the range of 120.degree. C. to 190.degree. C. and at least one rubber selected from the group consisting of polyisoprene, styrene-butadiene rubber, and polybutadiene rubber.
