A production process for a catalyst that supports a noble metal, and an alkali metal compound and/or alkali earth metal compound, useful for synthesis of vinyl acetate is provided. The process includes (a) impregnating a carrier with an aqueous solution of a water soluble noble metal compound, and (b) converting the noble metal compound into a water insoluble noble metal compound, and the noble metal compound is reduced, followed by supporting an alkali metal compound and/or alkali earth metal compound. An element that oxidizes to produce an amphoteric oxide is brought into contact with the carrier at the step (a) and/or the step (b). This process is advantageous in facilities required and the associated running costs for production of an eggshell-type structure catalyst, which offers a high level of catalytic activity, and enables the production of vinyl acetate with a high space-time yield.

An organic electroluminescence device comprises a cathode, an anode and a layer of an organic thin film comprising one or a plurality of layers and disposed between the cathode and the anode, wherein at least one of the layers in the layer of an organic thin film comprises a laminate of a layer comprising a metal complex having an energy gap of 2.8 eV or greater and a layer of a host material. The organic electroluminescence device exhibits a higher efficiency of light emission and has a longer life than conventional devices while the emitted light has a high luminance.

An outboard motor includes an elastic seal lid attached to an under cover to form a hermetic seal between the under cover and an exhaust release pipe while closing an opening of the under cover from which an outlet portion of the exhaust release pipe projects outwardly. The seal lid includes a tubular seal portion projecting from at least one surface of a plate-like body of the seal lid. The tubular seal portion has annular seal lips fitted around an outer circumferential surface of the exhaust release pipe. The tubular seal portion is elastically deformable relative to the lid body to thereby take up or absorb an offset between the exhaust release pipe and the opening of the under cover produced due to cumulative manufacturing and assembling tolerances of relevant parts of the outboard motor.

The under cover has an opening formed at a place opposite to a drain unit provided at a lower portion of the oil pan. A flame retarding polypropylene fiber and flame retarding polypropylene film having both good flame retardancy and good fiber strength and film strength, and generating no toxic gas, and a production method thereof are provided. 0.5 to 3.0% by weight of a NOR type hindered amine-based stabilizer and 0.5 to 3.0% by weight of a phosphoric ester-based flame retardant are mixed with a polypropylene resin having a melt flow rate value of 5 to 50 g/10 min., the mixture is spun to form an unstretched yarn, and then the yarn is stretched at a stretching magnification of 2 to 7-fold and a stretching temperature of 50 to 100° C., and further set thermally at a temperature of 60 to 140° C. Since the flame retarding polypropylene fiber obtained contains the above-mentioned range of the NOR type hindered amine-based stabilizer and the phosphoric ester-based flame retardant, it has both adequate fiber strength and good flame retardancy. And a flame retardant polypropylene film containing the above-mentioned range of the NOR type hindered amine-based stabilizer and the phosphoric ester-based flame retardant has strength and flame retardant property as well.

A method for producing a flame retarding polypropylene fiber having both good flame retardancy and good fiber strength, and which generates no toxic gas, includes mixing 0.4% by wt. or more of a hindered amine-based stabilizer and 0.5% by wt. or more of a phosphoric ester-based flame retardant with a polypropylene resin having an MPR of 5 to 50 g/10 min, melt-spinning the mixture to form an undrawn yarn, drafting the yarn at a drafting magnification of 2 to 7 fold and a drafting temperature of 50 to 100° C., and further thermally setting at 60 to 140° C.
