摘要: This invention provides a particulate material suitable for use as a nutritional supplement, particularly as an aquaculture feed. The particulate material has a high proportion of DHA residues in the lipid fraction, which may be up to 35% of the material, or even more. Preferably, the material has a mean particle size of from about 5 microns to about 10 microns. This invention also provides a method for preparing a particulate material suitable for use as an aquaculture feed from microbial biomass, preferably from algal cells having a high content of DHA residues, by obtaining a lipid fraction from the biomass, preferably by solvent extraction of broken cells, followed by separating a fraction containing phospholipids and proteins from the lipid fraction, and removing water from the protein/phospholipid fraction to form a low moisture particulate, preferably by spray-drying the protein/phospholipid fraction.

摘要: A method of preparing particulate calcium phosphate animal feed minerals and useful carbon dioxide by coreacting calcareous proteinacious by-products recovered from poultry hatcheries with phosphoric acid. Aqueous hatchery by-product containing protein and calcium in a weight ratio between 0.25 and 1.25 is comminuted until the contained dry matter particles exhibit diameters less than 1 millimeter and are reactive with phosphoric acid. The calcium in the comminuted hatchery by-product is coreacted with phosphoric acid using between one and two mols of P per mol of Ca until carbon dioxide formation ceases and the reacted aqueous hatchery by-product exhibits a pH between 2 and 4. Dry recycled calcium phosphate is admixed with the aqueous hatchery by-product to form damp solids containing between 7 and 18 percent water. The damp solids are rolled by means of a granulator until spheroid granules containing calcium phosphate homogeneously mixed with protein are formed. The calcium phosphate granules are dried by commercial means until the protein hardens and forms a matrix bonding the calcium phosphate into attrition resistant granules of animal feed mineral containing between 5 and 20 percent protein, between 12 and 18 percent calcium, and between 15 and 24 percent phosphorus. The method allows the use of economical wet process phosphoric acid containing low fluoride contents. The chemical intermediate carbon dioxide may be effectively used to produce animal feed mineral potassium carbonate by recovering the carbon dioxide by reacting with aqueous potassium hydroxide.

摘要: Enzyme-containing granules for manufacturing animal feed compositions are prepared using a carrier containing at least about 15% (w/w) carbohydrate such as starch and less than 5% (w/w) protein. A mixture is formed containing an enzyme, the carrier and water, with or without prior kneading to improve plasticity, the mixture is mechanically processed such as by extrusion with a basket or dome extruder while not allowing the temperature of the mixture to rise above about 40° C., and drying the resultant enzyme-containing granules. The granules may be spheronised prior to drying, and drying may be in a fluid bed agglomerator. The water and enzyme may be provided as an enzyme-containing aqueous liquid such as an enzyme-containing filtrate from a fermentation process. Enzymes include phytase, endo-xylanase and &bgr;-glucanase. Other components that may be in the granules include divalent cations, cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol and an edible oil. Animal feed compositions may be prepared by mixing the granules with feed ingredients, sterilizing or treating with steam, and pelleting. The compositions show improved enzyme stability during pelleting.

摘要: A process and an apparatus are described for adding additives during the conditioning of animal feed. The feed is transferred from a container (1) into a conditioner (3) via a feed screw (2) at an inlet point (M). In the conditioner (3), the feed is transported by a mixing screw (12) from an inlet point (M) along a path (A) to an exit point (N), and is exposed to vapor in the course of this. One or more additives (5) which are introduced into the conditioner (3) through one or more ports (10) are added to the feed which, has passed through x% of the path (A) in the conditioner (3). The feed and the additives (5) added through one or more ports (10) are mixed on the remaining (100-x)% of the path (A) to form a mixture (6). The mixture (6) leaving the conditioner (3) at the exit point (N) is transferred to a pelleting press (7), where the mixture (6) is formed into pellets (8). The pellets (8) are finally transferred to a cooling device (9). The additives, in particular enzymes, vitamins, carotenoids and antibiotics, are not added to the main feed components until toward the end of the conditioning step. In this manner, these relatively heat-labile substances are exposed to elevated temperatures only for a relatively short time and experience much less stress than would be the case for complete passage through the conditioning unit.
