There are provided a solid lubricant having an island-and-sea structure, which, with the sea phase strengthened, remains free of troubles such as chipping even in use under high load conditions, and a sliding member having the solid lubricant embedded therein. The solid lubricant comprises 1 to 10% by volume of a polyethylene resin, 20 to 60% by volume of a hydrocarbon-based wax, 10 to 60% by volume of melamine cyanurate, 5 to 15% by volume of a polyamide resin, and 2 to 10% by volume of a modified polyethylene resin. The sliding member has the solid lubricant embedded in pores or grooves formed in a sliding surface of the sliding member body.
Abstract:
A reversible thermal thickening grease for microelectronic packages, in which the grease contains filler particles; at least one polymer; and a binder; in which the filler particles are dispersed within the binder, in which one or more segments of the at least one polymer may be attached to the filler particles prior to dispersion in the binder, and in which the polymer collapses at temperatures below a Theta temperature and swells at temperatures above a Theta temperature. During the operation of a microelectronic package, grease pump-out and air proliferation are minimized with use of the reversible thermal thickening grease, while grease fluidity is retained under repetitive thermal stresses.
Abstract:
There is provided a lubricant composition which includes: a first particle having a spherical shape having a diameter of 1 to 300 nm, having a Moose Hardness of 5 or more, at an amount of 0.01 to 40 weight %; and a second particle, having a diameter of 500 nm to 50 μm, having a brinel hardness of 17HB or less, at an amount of 0.01 to 40 weight %. The lubricant composition can form a bearing structure when the lubricant composition is subjected to an extreme pressure. The second particles are deformed into a retainer for the first particle.
Abstract:
A biphasic nanoporous vitreous carbon material with a cementitious morphology characterized by presence of non-round porosity, having superior hardness and tribological properties, as useful for high wear-force applications. The biphasic nanoporous vitreous carbon material is produced by firing, under inert atmosphere, of particulate vitrified carbon in a composition containing (i) a precursor resin that is curable and pyrolyzable to form vitreous carbon and, optionally, (ii) addition of one or more of the following: solid lubricant, such as graphite, boron nitride, or molybdenum disulfide; a heat-resistant fiber reinforcement, such as copper, bronze, iron alloy, graphite, alumina, silica, or silicon carbide; or one or more substances to improve electrical conductivity, such as dendritic copper powder, copper “felt” or graphite flake, to produce a superior vitreous carbon that is useful alone or as a continuous phase in reinforced composites, in relation to conventional glassy carbon materials.

Provided is a heat conductive silicone grease composition including (A) 100 parts by mass of an organopolysiloxane containing 2 or more alkenyl groups bonded to silicon atoms within each molecule, (B) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane containing 2 or more hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within each molecule, in sufficient quantity to provide from 0.1 to 5.0 hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within the component (B) for each alkenyl group within the component (A), (C) 100 to 2,200 parts by mass of a heat conductive filler, (D) an effective quantity of a platinum-based catalyst, and (E) an effective quantity of an addition reaction retarder, in which the component (C) includes more than 90% by mass and no more than 100% by mass of an indium powder with an average particle size of 0.1 to 100 μm. Also provided is a heat conductive silicone cured product obtained by curing the above composition by heating at a temperature equal to, or greater than, the melting point of the indium powder. Further provided is an electronic device including an electronic component, a heat radiating member, and a heat conductive member including the above cured product disposed between the electronic component and the heat radiating member. Still further provided is a method of curing the above composition. Even further provided is a method of forming a heat conductive member between an electronic component and a heat radiating member. The above heat conductive silicone grease composition generates a suitably thin cured product with excellent thermal conductivity that prevents problems such as the contamination of components other than the coated component, and the leakage of oily materials from the product if used over extended periods.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a threaded joint for steel pipes which comprises a pin and a box each having a contact surface including a threaded portion and an unthreaded metal contact portion and which guarantees galling resistance and gas tightness in a stable manner without application of a compound grease. A solid lubricating coating comprising a lubricating powder (e.g., molybdenum disulfide) and an organic or inorganic binder is formed on the contact surface of at least one of the pin and the box. The proportion of area of a cross section along the thickness of the solid lubricating coating which is occupied by secondary particles of the lubricating powder having an equivalent circular diameter of 15-60 &mgr;m is from 5-90%. Alternatively, the solid lubricating coating comprises, in addition to the lubricating powder, a fibrous filler (e.g., inorganic whiskers) in such an amount that the mass ratio of the fibrous filler to the binder is 0.01-0.5. As a result, galling resistance is improved, particularly at high temperatures.
