Abstract: A humidification system for delivering humidified gases to a user can include a heater base, humidification chamber having an inlet, outlet, and associated fluid conduit, and breathing circuit including a supply conduit, inspiratory conduit, and optional expiratory conduit. The humidification system can include various features to help make set-up less difficult and time-consuming. For example, the supply conduit, inspiratory conduit, and optional expiratory conduit can be coupled into a one-piece circuit to aid set-up. Various components can be color-coded and can have corresponding structures to indicate which components should be connected to one another during set-up. Such features can also help make the set-up process more intuitive for an operator, which can reduce the need for specialized training and reduce the number of potential errors.

Abstract: A patient interface for sealed delivery of a flow of air to ameliorate sleep disordered breathing may include: a seal-forming structure to form a pneumatic seal with the entrance to the patient's airways; a positioning and stabilising structure to maintain the seal-forming structure in sealing contact with an area surrounding the entrance to the patient's airways; a plenum chamber pressurised at a pressure above ambient pressure in use; a connection port for the delivery of the flow of breathable gas into the patient interface; and a device positioned within a breathing chamber defined, at least in part, by the seal-forming structure and the plenum chamber, wherein the device divides the breathing chamber into a posterior chamber and an anterior chamber, and wherein the device comprises a plurality of apertures such that turbulence of the air in the posterior chamber is less than turbulence in the air in the anterior chamber.

Abstract: A collapsible humidifier reservoir assembly is configured to humidify a flow of pressurized respiratory gas. The humidifier reservoir assembly includes a bottom portion comprising a heat conducting base plate and a top portion that is releasably secured to the bottom portion. A seal is sandwiched between the top and bottom portions. An air inlet is configured to receive the flow of pressurized respiratory gas, and an air outlet is configured to discharge the flow of pressurized respiratory gas from the humidifier reservoir assembly. The bottom and top portions are formed from a flexible material, and the humidifier reservoir is configured to expand upon being filled with fluid.

Abstract: A system and method for reducing the risk of fire in an oxygen delivery system. The system may include an oxygen delivery device with a controller in communication with a flow control valve to control a flow of oxygen through a tubing from an oxygen source to a patient interface. The controller may be programmed to close the flow control valve for a predetermined time period at a predetermined time interval to cause a periodic oxygen pause, the periodic oxygen pause to remove oxygen that may serve as an oxidizer when a fire is present inside at least one of the patient interface and the tubing.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of determining water level in a humidifier chamber that is part of a humidified gases delivery apparatus and system. The method comprising the steps of delivering power to a heater plate, varying the power delivered to the heater plate, measuring the rate of change of temperature and determining the level of water based on the heating characteristics of the volume of water within the chamber, in particular determining the level of water within the chamber based on the rate of change of temperature and the supplied power.
