Abstract: Provided are methods for the detection of GDF11 in a subject having or suspected of having a mood and/or anxiety disorder, comprising providing a sample from a subject having or suspected of having a mood and/or anxiety disorder; contacting the sample with a GDF11-binding molecule; and detecting bound GDF11. Also provided are methods of diagnosing or characterizing a mood and/or anxiety disorder in a subject, comprising providing a sample from a subject; contacting the sample with a GDF11-binding molecule; detecting bound GDF11; and comparing the levels of detected bound GDF11 to healthy reference levels. Also provided are methods of treating or preventing a mood and/or anxiety disorder and/or accelerated aging in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject an agent or composition which increases the levels of GDF11 polypeptide in the subject.

Abstract: Provided herein is a biosensor suitable for use in measuring membrane fluidity or membrane permeability. The biosensor is formed of a solid substrate having a lipid bilayer compatible surface and a multi-lamellar lipid membrane structure localized on the lipid bilayer compatible surface. The multi-lamellar lipid membrane structure can be derived from a biological cell further comprising one or more synthetic lipids. An electrode forming all or part of the lipid bilayer compatible surface may be used to detect disruptions in the lipid membrane structure and hemolytic activity in a test sample.

Abstract: The present application describes process for preparing an ortho-allylated hydroxy aryl compounds such as compounds of Formula (I) by reacting an allylic alcohol with a hydroxy aryl compound in the presence of aluminum compound selected from alumina and aluminum alkoxides and in a non-protic solvent wherein at least one carbon atom ortho to the hydroxy group in the hydroxy aryl compound is unsubstituted. Abstract: A biosensor detector device is disclosed suitable for use in measuring membrane fluidity or membrane permeability. Abstract: A method for autonomous path planning triggered by freeway rubbernecking includes obtaining gaze directions of drivers of a plurality of connected vehicles in a region of a road. The method also includes determining whether an average speed of the plurality of connected vehicles in the region is less than a predetermined speed. The method further includes controlling mobility of one or more of the plurality of connected vehicles in response to determining that the gaze directions of one or more drivers of the plurality of connected vehicles deviate from the moving direction of the connected vehicles and determining that the average speed of the connected vehicles is less than the predetermined speed.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a biosensor, and methods of use thereof, for detecting a target in a sample comprising a photoelectrode comprising a conductive substrate and a photoactive material; a population of capture probes functionalized on the photoelectrode wherein the capture probes are capable of binding to the target and a reporter moiety; and the reporter moiety comprising a detectable label and a capture probe binding portion; wherein exposure of the target to the population of the capture probes results in binding of the target to a fraction of the population which results in a decrease in detection signal intensity compared to the intensity in the absence of the target, and subsequent binding of the reporter moiety to the remaining unbound capture probes results in an increase in detection signal intensity that is less than an increase from the reporter moiety binding to capture probes not exposed to the target.
