摘要: Porous, silica-rich shapes have improved strength and abrasion resistance by leaching the precursor glass shape in preconditioned acid having silica ion and at least one common ion that is also present in the precursor glass shape. The precursor glass shapes have shapes such as fibers, hollow fibers, tubes, rods, beads, hollow spheres and plates and compositions having 30-75 volume percent silica and at least 10-65 volume percent nonsiliceous acid extractable components. Preconditioning of the acid solution results from a pretreatment of the acid with compounds that dissociate into the ions when added to the acid solution or with shapes, particles or fragments of glass compositions different from or similar to the glass shape to be leached so long as the glass composition has extractable material to provide the silica ion and at least one common ion.

摘要: A composite fused quartz material is disclosed for processing semiconductor grade silicon material in an improved manner. The modified vitreous material includes a disperse phase of fine size silicon metal particles which are distributed in preselected regions of the fused quartz matrix as a means of exercising temperature control in the various semiconductor processing operations using these fused quartz parts. Such utilization of the modified vitreous material in single crystal silicon rod growth and production of semiconductor grade silicon by diffusion doping is described. A method to produce the modified vitreous material is also disclosed.

摘要: The invention relates to a photosensitive and heat-sensitive glass which is composed of 25-70 mol % of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and/or Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3, 30-75 mol % of at least one of CaO, BaO, SrO and MgO and 0-40 mol % of an auxiliary component which is at least one of SiO.sub.2, GeO.sub.2, B.sub.2 O.sub.3 and P.sub.2 O.sub.5. The glass is produced by melting a batch mixture of powdery raw materials. By exposure to UV rays the glass colors in yellowish brown, and the color does not fade by termination of the exposure. Bleaching of the colored glass is accomplished by heating for a short time at about 150.degree.-300.degree. C. Coloration and bleaching can be repeated without deterioration. The same glass turns into an opaline foam glass, which presents a very attractive appearance, by heat treatment at a temperature above the softening temperature. This change is irreversible. The foams created in the glass matrix are usually tens of microns in diameter.

摘要: An improved clot activator system for reducing the clotting time for blood samples in serum separation tubes, and the like, as well as increasing the degree of clotting, while at the same time, reducing the cost of production. This is achieved by the addition of glass pieces to the tube which pieces are formed in a particular way by a sol-gel process. The particles are pieces of glass, and are a porous substantially rigid amorphous inorganic sponge with substantial reactive surfaces. When a blood sample is introduced into a serum separation tube containing such pieces, the blood enters the interstices of the pieces causing fragmentation thereof, which fragmentation causes sound and shock waves which, in turn, enhance the clotting of the blood.

摘要: The method is characterized by moulding at least one slab of a thermoplastic, normally solid material under heat treatment against a matrix having a form substantially matching that of the final mirror to form a shell (6) introducing into the shell a material selected from the group consisting of; (1) glass bubbles of a thermoplastic, normally solid material; (2) a composition of a powder of a thermoplastic, normally solid material together with an expanding agent, and; (3) mixtures thereof, and bringing the glass bubbles and the powder particles of the composition resp., the latter after expansion, to adhere, on one hand to each other, and on the other to the shell to form a porous supporting structure. The mirror blank according to the invention comprises a shell (6) of a thermoplastic, normally solid material and a supporting structure of the material in said group filling the shell, the glass bubbles and the powder particles resp. being attached to each other and to the shell. If sheet glass is used for the shell and as a powder in the composition, the composition will further include 0-2% by weight of viscosity reducing Li.sub.2 CO.sub.3 and 4% by weight of CaCO.sub.3 as an expansion agent (all counted on the glass powder).
