摘要: A method for reducing the interaction between carbon monoxide present in a heat exchange medium and metals on the shell side of heat exchange reformer apparatus used for reforming of hydrocarbons by treatment of the shell-side of said apparatus with an effective amount of at least one passivation compound containing at least one element selected from phosphorus, tin, antimony, arsenic, lead, bismuth, copper, germanium, silver or gold is described. Where volatile compounds are formed by the passivation compound, the method further comprises compound recovery to prevent contamination and deactivation of subsequent process steps. The method reduces side reactions, provides improved reformer tube lifetime and allows tubes to be treated in-situ without the need for process shutdown.

摘要: Copper/alumina compositions for use as, e.g., catalysts are made by impregnating a porous transition alumina support with an aqueous solution of a copper ammine carbonate complex, draining off any excess of the impregnating solution, and then heating the impregnated support to a temperature above 80° C. to decompose the complex, thereby depositing a basic copper carbonate compound on the surfaces of the pores of the transition alumina support. After reduction, the composition has a high copper surface area, expressed per unit weight of copper in the composition.

摘要: Propane and/or butanes are separated from a hydrocarbon feedstock contaminated with alkyl mercaptans by fractional distillation at such a pressure that the separated overheads stream containing said propane and/or butanes is at a temperature in the range 50 to 100° C. Sufficient oxygen is introduced into the hydrocarbon feedstock to oxidise the mercaptans therein and the resultant mixture is subjected to the fractional distillation in a column including at least one bed of a catalyst capable, under the prevailing conditions, of oxidising the mercaptans to higher boiling point sulphur compounds. These higher boiling point sulphur compounds are separated as part of the liquid phase from the distillation.

摘要: A composition suitable for use as a catalyst for the reaction of an isocyanate compound or prepolymer thereof with an alcohol to form a polyurethane comprises a mixture of (a)an organometallic compound selected from: (i) a compound of formula M(RO)4, where M is titanium, zirconium, hafnium, aluminium, cobalt or iron or a mixture of these metals and OR is the residue of an alcohol ROH in which R comprises an (optionally substituted) C1-30 cyclic, branched or linear, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or alkyl-aryl group or a mixture thereof, or; (ii) a complex of titanium, zirconium and/or hafnium and an acetoacetate ester and (b) a coordinating compound selected from a ketone, aldhehyde, carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid, nitride or an imine. An isocyanate composition containing a catalyst of the claimed composition is also described.

摘要: Process for preparing a catalyst active for the fluid bed acetoxylation of ethylene to produce vinyl acetate. The process comprises the steps of (a) impregnating microspheroidal silica support particles by the incipient wetness technique with an aqueous solution of palladium and gold compounds, whilst agitating the support particles; (b) drying the impregnated support particles produced in step (a) whilst agitating the impregnated support particles; (c) reducing the palladium and gold compounds of the impregnated support particles produced in step (b) to respective metals by adding the dried, impregnated support particles to an aqueous solution of hydrazine, whilst stirring, to form a slurry; (d) filtration of the slurry produced in step (c) to remove the excess reduction solution; (e) washing the filter cake/slurry produced in step (d) with water and removing excess water to form a cake; (f) impregnating the cake produced in step (e) with one or more salts of Group I, Group II, lanthanide and transition metals by blending the cake produced in step (e) with one or more solid salts of Group I, Group II, lanthanide and transition metals; and (g) drying the impregnated cake produced in step (f) whilst agitating the impregnated cake to form free-flowing catalyst particles.

摘要: Ionic liquids are immobilized on a functionalized support which carries or contains one component of the ionic liquid, or a precursor to such a component. The ionic liquid may be immobilized via the anion by treating a support with an anion source, e.g., an inorganic halide, before the ionic liquid is applied or formed. Alternatively, the ionic liquid may be immobilized by having the cation covalently bound to the support, e.g., through silyl groups, or incorporated in the support by synthesizing the support in the presence of a suitable base. The immobilized ionic liquids are of use as catalysts, for example, for the Friedel-Crafts reaction, such as alkylation reaction.

摘要: A catalyst or precursor thereto comprising cobalt and/or a cobalt compound on a transition alumina support having a total cobalt content of at least 41% by weight and a cobalt surface area, after reduction, greater than 25 m2 per gram of total cobalt. The catalyst or precursor may be made by slurrying a transition alumina powder having a pore volume of at least 0.7 ml/g with an aqueous cobalt ammine carbonate complex and heating the slurry to decompose the complex.
