Abstract:
A (metal/rubber) composite comprising a rubber matrix reinforced with a metallic body adhering to the rubber matrix by means of an adhesive interphase; the rubber matrix is based on diene elastomer; the metal is a carbon steel, the carbon content of which is between 0.35% and 1.2%; to constitute the adhesive interphase, the carbon steel is coated with a metallic layer bearing aluminium oxides or hydroxides, which itself is covered by an organosilane film providing, as coupling agent, the bond between the aluminium oxides-hydroxides on one hand, and the rubber matrix on the other hand. The invention also relates to articles or semi-finished products made of rubber which are reinforced with or formed by such a composite, in particular tires.
Abstract:
A tire steel cord which is produced by coating the surface of a brass-plated steel cord with a compound selected from the group consisting of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxy pyrimidine, 3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid and m-anisic acid, is disclosed. The tire steel cord has excellent initial and aged adhesion to rubber, improved rubber coverage and controlled oxidation rate on its surface.
Abstract:
A method of treating a metallic cord to improve its ability to adhere to rubber is disclosed. The method involves contacting the metallic cord with a naphthenic oil containing from 1 to 53 percent by weight of a soluble cobalt salt and thereby deposit from 0.002 to 0.7 grams of cobalt per kilogram of steel to the metallic cord.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a rubber reinforcing steel cord is provided, wherein the steel cord has a steel wire plated with metal containing copper and having on its surface an oil layer containing a cobalt compound, and includes an application step in which the oil containing a cobalt compound is applied to the steel wire or a steel cord plated with metal containing copper, and a step of twisting the steel wires.
Abstract:
A steel cord adapted for the reinforcement of an elastomer comprises steel filaments of a pearlitic structure. The steel cord has a plastic and elastic elongation at break of x % and a plastic and elastic elongation capability in the vulcanized elastomer of y %, the values x and y fulfilling following equation: y-0.50.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.y+0.50, which means that the total elongation at break does not fall down considerably after embedding the steel cord into an elastomer.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composite cord for reinforcing rubber comprising an organic chemical fiber cord and a high-carbon steel fine wire used by being buried in the rubber, for reinforcing rubber products such as various kinds of tires and conveyor belts. The composite cord comprises an organic chemical fiber cord wrapped by brass plated high-carbon steel fine wire.
Abstract:
A fishing line composed of a strand of a plurality of steel wires twisted together and coated with synthetic resin, wherein the steel wire is a low carbon duplex structure steel wire in the fibrous fine metallic structure having a tensile strength of 300 to 600 kgf/mm.sup.2 and coated by plating with anticorrosive metal on the outer surface, the twist pitch of the strand being 13 to 20 times the diameter thereof and the thickness of coating layer of synthetic resin being 4 .mu.m or more. This fishing line is high in tensile strength and knot strength, and is hardly kinked or curled when subjected to impact.
Abstract:
This invention relates to metal wire used to produce reinforcing elements for articles of elastomeric material. The wire is provided with a coating ensuring at the same time a good resistance to corrosion, good values of initial adhesion, and a low decay, due to ageing, of the bond with the elastomeric material, said coating being constituted by two concentric layers of a Zn/Ni alloy, where the radially inner layer contains Zn in an amount ranging between 60% and 90% based on total layer and the radially outer layer contains Ni in an amount ranging between 60% and 80% based on the total layer.
Abstract:
A steel wire element useful in the reinforcement of rubber compositions in which the steel wire is provided with an adhesive coating comprising a brass alloy containing 58% to 75% copper, and cobalt in an amount sufficient in use to improve the adhesion between the coated steel wire and the rubber composition. Preferably the brass alloy contains 2% to 4% of cobalt. Applications include coated steel cords for use in vehicle tires and conveyor belts and hoses.
Abstract:
A steel member, essentially rectangular in cross-section, having an aspect ratio greater than 2 having an adhesive coating on the surface thereof, wherein the reinforcing member is characterized by a tensile strength greater than 200 ksi and a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite and mixtures thereof.A method is disclosed for making a steel member comprising the steps of slitting in coil form steel stock containing more than about 0.40% carbon, continuously heat treating the stock so as to obtain a microstructure of tempered martensite, bainite or mixtures thereof and then applying an adhesive coating to the stock.
