Abstract:
The present invention provides a microfluidic device for synthesizing an array of compounds and methods for using the same. In particular, the microfluidic device of the present invention comprises a solid support base, an elastomeric layer attached to the solid support, and a plurality of flow channels located within the interface between the solid support and the elastomeric layer. In addition, the solid support comprises a functional group for forming a bond with a reactive reagent. In some embodiments, the microfluidic device further comprises a second plurality of flow channels that intersect the first plurality of flow channels. A plurality of control channels are also present in the microfluidic devices of the present invention. The control channels can be actuated to regulate flow of fluids within the flow channel(s).
Abstract:
The invention relates to new microreactors consisting of at least one microreaction system applied to a carrier and comprising at least one microreaction space, at least one inlet for educts and at least one outlet for products, characterized in that the microreaction systems are rendered inert by a coating selected from the group consisting of silicon dioxide, silicon nitride and/or aluminium oxide.
Abstract:
A fuel container and delivery assembly for use with a direct oxidation fuel cell system is provided. The container and delivery assembly allows clean fuel which, in a preferred embodiment, is in the form of either pure methanol or an aqueous methanol/water mixture to be delivered to the cell. Additives are mixed with the fuel containing substance prior to release of the fuel outside of the cell. The fuel substance is housed in an inner tank, which is disposed within an outer container. A plenum area defined by the space between the outer container and the flexible bladder is filled with the additives so that, upon rupture of the entire assembly, the fuel substance is mixed with the additives. In one embodiment of the invention, the inner tank is a flexible bladder. A rupture means is provided on a needle, which draws the fuel out in pure form, tears the flexible bladder so that any remaining fuel is mixed with the additives when it is desired to dispose of or re-fill the container.
Abstract:
A method of preserving two or more separately packaged agents for forming a silicone composition which can be cured by mixing the separately packaged agents, which method can reduce the number of air bubbles contained in a cured product of the silicone composition and prevent a reduction in the strength of the cured product. The method of preserving the composition is characterized by keeping each packaged agent of the curable silicone composition under reduced pressure.
Abstract:
In order to be capable of a chemical reaction, analysis or the like wherein a small amount of samples is used, a reactor comprises a flat plate-like first substrate the inside of which is provided with a heating means; and a flat plate-like second substrate, which is placed on the top of the above-described first substrate, and on a surface thereof to be placed on the top of the above-described first substrate a flow channel having a predetermined contour has been defined.
Abstract:
An apparatus for loading fibers in a fiber suspension with calcium carbonate includes a housing with a fiber source inlet, and inlet chamber and an accept outlet. A stator is carried by the housing. A rotor is positioned in opposing relation with the stator. Each of the rotor and the stator are positioned downstream from the inlet chamber. A reactant gas supply is positioned in fluid communication with the inlet chamber.
Abstract:
Storage water used for storage of a silicon wafer in water is disclosed. The storage water contains Cu at a concentration of 0.01 ppb or less. A method of storing a silicon wafer in water is also disclosed. In the method, water containing Cu at a concentration of 0.01 ppb or less is used. In another method, a wafer is stored in water or a chemical solution, to which a chelating agent is added. The storage water and the storage methods can prevent degradation of oxide dielectric breakdown voltage which would otherwise occur due to Cu contamination from the storage water.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement (10, 20) for preparing samples (15, 27), submergible in a liquid medium. The arrangement comprises a section provided with a device (13, 23) for controllable generation of a magnetic field through influence of a control signal, said magnetic field being generated to trap at least part of said samples (15, 27).
Abstract:
An apparatus for high-throughput combinatorial syntheses of organic molecules including a reaction vessel for containing a combinatorial-chemistry synthetic reaction, a liquid dispenser for dispensing the liquid, a liquid aspirator and an adjustment mechanism. The reaction vessel includes an ingress aperture allowing a liquid to enter into an interior of the vessel and an egress aperture for aspirating the liquid from the vessel. The liquid dispenser dispenses liquid through the ingress aperture. The liquid aspirator aspirates liquid through the egress aperture and includes a rotor for carrying the vessel and orbiting the vessel about an axis of rotation. The rotor is oriented generally in a horizontal plane and includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the angle of the vessel relative to the horizontal plane in response to the centrifugal force generated by orbiting the vessel about the axis of rotation. A method of combinatorial synthesis of organic molecules is also disclosed.
